I've been a school teacher for more than 20 years and am still in recovery from burnout and compassion fatigue. But it's yoga which helps me to recover.
As teachers we are constantly under stress - physically, mentally, emotionally, socially and sometimes spiritually - and in a working day we have no time for our nervous system to get the rest it deserves and desperately needs.
I've started offering a 45-minute yoga class at a local school and yesterday, one of the participants said to me: "I usually get a headache on a Wednesday morning after working all day Tuesday, but the two days that I've done yoga, I haven't had one. When you were away last week, I got a headache again..."
Ahh, the power of rest to heal our mind, body and spirit.
Taking time out of our busy profession to rest can help us be rejuvinated for our daily duties.
