FAQs
We've compiled a comprehensive list of FAQs at our website, which we hope will answer any questions you might have: https://storyofmylifejournal.com/contact/faq/

However, we're also providing some of those FAQs here:

PRODUCT
- How can I be sure the Story of My Life Journal is for me? Journaling is quite subjective, and people’s opinions and preferences can vary quite significantly. We can’t

promise you’ll love your Story of My Life Journal (we certainly hope you do), but we can promise we’ll be here to support you in getting the most out of it. We’ve provided a comprehensive overview of how your Story of My Life Journal works, so you know what to expect. We recommend checking out our blogs and resources, as well as signing up for our newsletter, to get to know us a little better and see if you like our style.

- Do you have any other products, besides the journal? Not at the moment, but our intention is to introduce a range of products as we grow, all designed to support you in discovering who you are, where you want to go, and how you’ll get there.

- Will the Story of My Life Journal make me feel better? We want to say something upfront, to be really clear about it: no-one involved in producing the Story of My Life Journal is a psychologist/psychiatrist. We have an interest in mental health and wellbeing, and the tools employed in the Story of My Life Journal system are authentic psychotherapeutic approaches (and all have been referenced), but we are not qualified mental health practitioners. Your Story of My Life Journal has been designed to support you in identifying who you are, where you want to go, and how you’ll get there – it’s designed to help you find meaning and purpose, and support you in pursuing it. It doesn’t take much Googling to come up with hundreds of studies that have linked the pursuit of meaning, purpose, and meaningful goals with positive emotion and mental wellbeing, and the same goes for journaling, which can support the reduction of negative emotions through affective labelling. So, what we’re saying is: we hope your Story of My Life Journal helps you feel better – its tools have been designed to do so – and you might find your journal can be used as a supportive and complementary tool in any strategies you’re employing in managing your mental wellbeing. However, the Story of My Life Journal is not a treatment for any mental health condition, and was not designed to be. If you are experiencing challenges in your life that you feel are beyond your ability to manage on your own, please contact the appropriate health care professional (such as your GP or psychologist) or support service (such as Australia’s Lifeline).

- Who is the Story of My Life Journal for? Your Story of My Life Journal has been designed to support those wanting to get a better understanding of who they are and what drives them, where they want to go, and help them formulate a plan on how to get there. It has not been designed specifically for men or women, nor for any particular age group, and it hasn’t been designed to focus on your work-life (that is: this is not a business/productivity journal); it’s simply been designed to support those who relate to the aforementioned purpose. If that sounds like you, it’s for you.

- What should I expect from my Story of My Life Journal? Ok, so there’s a whole page (Our story) dedicated to explaining how your Story of My Life Journal came about, but here’s some extra information that will hopefully help answer this question. The Story of My Life Journal system was designed by Glen Foreman. He’s a keen journaler. He was using a particular journal, which he found very good, for years, but there were some aspects he wasn’t happy with. For example, while much of it employed authentic tools, there were some elements that felt a little too new-agey and wishy-washy. He also felt the pre-work didn’t offer adequate support to dive deep enough, nor to address problematic issues and challenges. It was largely targeted at women, and felt a little too positive in parts (don’t get us wrong, positivity is important, but so is ‘calling a spade a spade’ sometimes [sorry for our international friends who aren’t familiar with that Aussie-ism]). So, why tell you that? Because, hopefully, it gives you some idea of what to expect from your Story of My Life Journal, particularly when compared to other journals. The pre-work has been designed to go deeper into your psyche than most journals to not only give you a better understanding of who you are and who you want to be, but also help you identify the parts of you that you might want to change and that are holding you back. And it does so only with authentic tools and strategies, with all references provided to you, to give you peace of mind. In terms of time commitment, your Story of My Life Journal is a daily journal, but has been designed to not be a burden (10min morning check-in, and 10min evening review once you’re into your daily pages). The pre-work will likely be the most challenging and time-consuming element of your journal, but time guides and recommended schedules have been provided to you to help you avoid feeling overwhelmed.

- How can I stock the Story of My Life Journal? Thanks so much for your interest. We would love for you to stock the Story of My Life Journal and/or other products. Get in touch by emailing support@ffpress.com.au and we can discuss options.

- Do you offer a digital app or journal? Not at the moment, but we’re considering it as part of our future plans. There is also a challenge with digital journals and apps, and that’s in the science of it all. Head to the “Our Research” section of the Our Story page for a more detailed explanation, but in a nutshell: writing is far more effective when it comes to journaling and goalsetting. We set out to create a journal of authentic tools and strategies that supported people in discovering who they are, where they want to go, and how they would get there. Research would suggest that a straight-up digital version of the journal would not be as effective in supporting you achieve that. And, hey, hopefully you know you can trust us when we tell you that, because from a business perspective, it’s WAY more beneficial to create a downloadable, digital product. No printing, shipping, wastage, or storage costs! So, our consideration of a digital product is how we can complement your Story of My Life Journal, or support your personal development journey in a meaningful way. SHIPPING
- What countries do you ship to? We are only shipping within our home country of Australia upon launch, but our intention is to ship internationally to most countries as soon as possible.

- What payments do you accept? Our store is powered by WooCommerce Payments, allowing us to accept most major credit and debit cards, and digital wallet options (such as Google and Apple Pay).

- Can I change or cancel my order? If you need to change or cancel your order, get in touch with us as soon as possible (support@ffpress.com.au) and we’ll do everything we can to help. However, if your order has already shipped, we apologise, but we won’t be able to recall or change it.

- What is your return/refund policy? We hope you love your Story of My Life Journal and that it becomes a part of your journey for years to come. However, if it’s not working out, please contact us (support@ffpress.com.au) within 30 days of receiving your product to discuss a return, exchange, or refund. Please be aware, we can only provide refunds for goods returned in an as-new condition that are able to be resold. For that reason, we recommend you read your Story of My Life Journal before beginning it, to ensure you’re happy with it, and please ensure you do not write in, or damage it in any way if you intend to seek a refund.

- How long will it take to receive my order? We strive to fulfill all orders within 24hrs of being placed. All orders are shipped via Australia Post and are subject to standard postage times and delays. Most orders will be received between 3-5 business days (subject to variation based on conditions, such as COVID impacts and seasonal volumes).

- How do you work out shipping costs? Shipping costs are based on order size and weight and determined using Australia Post calculations. MORE SUPPORT
- Where can I go for mental health support? If you are experiencing challenges in your life that you feel are beyond your ability to manage on your own, please contact the appropriate health care professional (such as your GP or psychologist) or support service (such as Australia’s Lifeline).

- I still have questions, who can I contact? Feel free to get in touch with us at support@ffpress.com.au. We’d love to hear from you.

CHECKING IN | Save this 💾 so you can reference when needed.
〰️
Checking in is one of the most critical aspects of goalsetting and journaling, and here's why:
〰️
1. CHUNKING: One of the most important parts of goalsetting is chunking: taking your large, overall goal and breaking it into smaller, practical, and far easier-to-achieve goals. Whether weekly, monthly, or quarterly, check-ins help you stay on track by laying the path to your goal - one step at a time.
〰️
2. EVOLUTION: Your goals aren’t static - they evolve and adapt as your life and circumstances change. Checking in ensures you have the opportunity to reflect on the goals and make any changes necessary, so that they remain relevant and you evolve with them.
〰️
3. REFLECTION: Check-ins not only help you look forward, they also help you look back. This is helpful in assessing what progress has been made, whether that’s with goals or habits/behaviours you’re attempting to set. This self-reflection can support you in objectively assess where you’re at compared to where you want to be.
〰️
4. PLANNING: Get those wild thoughts out of your head and onto a page. Doing so not only ensures you are prepared and aware of what’s to come, but it frees up cognitive space. Not having to remember the numerous items on your to-do list means you have more brain space to dedicate to what you choose to focus on.
〰️
5. BALANCE: You are hard-wired to perceive negatives and threats more than positives, and you are wired this way for a very good reason - when we were fighting for survival in our evolutionary path, the pretty flower couldn’t kill us, but the hungry lion could. Your check-ins ensure your mind has the opportunity to acknowledge all the positives, progress, and successes in your life, so that it doesn’t default straight to threat and negativity.
〰️
6. REFRAMING: Who you are is the result of all your experiences - the good, as well as the bad. It can be uncomfortable to dedicate deep thought to our challenges, which we often prefer to just forget. However, ignoring them robs us of the opportunity to learn, grow, and extract the positives out of them. Doing this allows us to reframe our challenges from negative experiences, to ones that benefited us and helped make us who we are.

PARSE TIME | Tag a friend 🏷️ you think might appreciate this knowledge bomb! 💣
〰️
Let's consider reality as comprising of two worlds: the objective and the subjective.
〰️
The objective world contains everything there is to be contained, and everything exists in the same way for everyone.
〰️
However, 'everything' is too complex for you to live in, so you exist in the subjective world, where your mind, using its predefined stories and values, reduces the complexity by "eradicating vast swathes of information" (Peterson, 2013) by parsing the world into three categories: tools; obstacles; irrelevant.
〰️
Anything your mind identifies as having the potential to move you towards a goal is identified as a tool.
〰️
Anything perceived as having the potential to hinder your progress towards a goal will be perceived as an obstacle.
〰️
And anything that has no bearing on your life's goals is chucked in the irrelevant bucket - which is where most of the world is categorised.
〰️
So, now you know. And, as GI Joe said, "Knowing is half the battle!"

LOW AND STEADY | Hit ✈️ to help others get the latest lowdown on yoga 🧘🏻
〰️
A study has suggested that practicing yoga at least once a week could reduce blood pressure by an amount that would prevent thousands of cases of heart attack and stroke each year.
〰️
There's definitely some caveats to the findings (so make sure you read it), but initial results look promising ✅

FIND YOUR CENTRE | Make sure you save 💾 this to reference when needed 👍🏻
〰️
Ikigai is a Japanese concept that refers to your sense of purpose and reason for being.
〰️
According to a study by Michiko Kumano ("On the Concept of Well-Being in Japan", 2017), feeling ikigai as described in Japanese usually means the feeling of accomplishment and fulfilment that follows when people pursue their passions.
〰️
The goal is to find something you love, something you're good at, something the world needs, and something you can get paid for, and pursue it with all your heart.
〰️
Do that, and you achieve Ikigai ❤️🙏🏻

On the one hand, we have the renowned Eckhart Tolle, who often talks about the dissolution of the ego.

MUSIC NOTES | Drop a ❤️ if you love a good tune in your life 🎶
〰️
Music is an important member of your four daily Moodboosters in your Story of My Life Journal.
〰️
A study conducted by Osaka University found that listening to music in a major chord resulted in reduced cortisol levels and improved happiness.
〰️
Music has been shown to assist in sharper concentration and alert thinking, and has been used in hospitals to assist with pain management and mental wellbeing.

MAX MINDSET | Save this for later 💾 and tag a friend 🏷️ so you can refer to it when needed!
〰️
You have a control over your mind that might not realise.
〰️
Research has shown that, even if you don't feel positive, you can effectively trick yourself into feeling positive by envisioning who you want to be and how you want to feel, and acting in that way.
〰️
So, grab a pen and paper 📝 (or, better still, your Story of My Life Journal 👍🏻) and write down some positive affirmations to give yourself a mindset boost.

REMINDER | Tag 🏷️ a friend who you think could do with remembering this 👆🏻
〰️
While acknowledging and validating our feelings and thoughts (and the feelings and thoughts of others) is essential in maintaining our wellbeing, it's equally important to remember that those thoughts and feelings are of our own creation.
〰️
They're not necessarily real or true.
〰️
It can be helpful to remember this when our thoughts start spiralling and we start creating negative stories that impact our wellbeing.

PERFECT DEFECT | Drop a ❤️ if this is you, or tag 🏷️ a friend who could totally relate!
〰️
Perfectionism is when you hold yourself and others to exceptionally high standards and strive for flawlessness even if ‘good enough’ would do just fine. It’s a state-of-mind we’re all vulnerable to from time to time. You might be a perfectionist about stacking the dishwasher or making the bed. This type of task-specific perfectionism is usually nothing to worry about. We all have our quirks!
〰️
Issues can arise when perfectionism affects several areas of your life and robs you of joy, satisfaction, and peace. Perfectionism is problematic if it increases anxiety, stress, and negative self-talk.
〰️
People who suffer from perfectionism tend to have good intentions. They are often hard working, ambitious, and thoughtful. They want the best for themselves and others. But, when they fall short of their high expectations, they may feel self-critical, defensive, and even depressed.
