💡 Did you know?

NDIS supports are designed to help people live more independently and achieve their personal goals, not just provide care.

At FAS Foundation, our work is guided by three core values:

✔ Respect
✔ Inclusion
✔ Person-centred support

Every individual’s journey is different and we believe support should be tailored, empowering, and delivered with dignity.

Thinking about working in disability services?

If you want to work as a support worker in Australia, the starting requirement is getting the right qualification.

Most people begin with the Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability).
This covers the foundations of disability support, including daily living support, personal care, safety, and professional boundaries.

For those wanting to progress further, the Certificate IV in Disability builds on this and focuses on complex needs, documentation, and higher levels of responsibility.

Yes, there are other requirements in the disability sector, but qualifications are the starting point. Everything else sits alongside this.

And this part matters.
Participants and families have the right to ask about qualifications.
You are allowed to ask what training a worker has.
You are allowed to ask what they are qualified to do.

A qualified workforce protects participants first.
It also protects workers and the system as a whole.

This is a good read thank you Strong Foundation Support

This comes up all the time.
There is no NDIS requirement for 2-hour shifts or minimum bookings.

You bill for the time actually delivered. If a support worker provides 30 minutes, 60 minutes, or 90 minutes of support, the NDIS position is simple: you bill for the time actually delivered.

The confusion comes from the SCHADS Award, which applies to employees, not participants.
That award includes minimum engagement periods to protect workers, but it’s an employment issue, not an NDIS rule.

Independent support workers are not employees, so SCHADS minimums don’t apply to them either.

If a independent worker has a minimum charge, that’s a business policy, not an NDIS requirement.

🔥☀️ Safety Saturday: Staying Cool This Summer ☀️🔥

As the weather heats up, it’s important to stay safe, comfortable and supported during the summer months. Here are a few simple ways to look after yourself:

💧 Drink plenty of water throughout the day
🧴 Wear SPF to protect your skin from the strong WA sun
🏠 Stay indoors during peak heat (usually 11am–3pm)
💬 Let your support team know if you start feeling unwell, dizzy or overheated

At FAS Foundation, your wellbeing always comes first. Our team is here to support you with safe summer planning, community access, and understanding how the heat may affect your daily routine.
Stay cool, stay safe, and enjoy your weekend. 💙
