Another new physio joins the Activate team! Meet Greg Diamond ✨

Greg joins us as a Senior Physiotherapist, bringing over 43 years of experience, a career spanning both public and private sectors, and a lifelong passion for helping people move and feel their best.

Physio runs in Greg’s blood (literally—both his parents were physios!) and over the years he’s led departments, run his own successful clinic, and worked with complex musculoskeletal conditions across all walks of life.

Greg has a special interest in spinal and joint issues, and uses the Ridgway Method to tackle those tricky, persistent problems that don’t always follow the rule book.

He’s also loving being back in his old stomping ground as he remembers when the building was the infamous Coronado Hotel!

Greg is now taking appointments and would love to meet you!

We are so excited to welcome Alison Hollier to the Activate Physio team! ⭐️

Alison joins us as a Senior Physiotherapist, bringing over 20 years of experience, clinical expertise, and a passion for helping people move better, stronger, and with more confidence.

Outside the clinic, Alison leads a full and active life – she’s a proud mum of three, a former water polo player, and no stranger to a challenge, having completed everything from half marathons and ocean swims to the QV1 abseil for charity! 🏃‍♀️🏊‍♀️💥

Her treatment style is all about experience, empathy, and getting results, with a good dose of humour and a firm belief in what’s possible for every body.

LEVEL 3 GYM EXERCISES FOR TEAM SPORT ATHLETES

Our final post in this series — and the most challenging workout of the three.

✅ Designed for advanced athletes with consistent gym experience (3+ sessions/week)
✅ Only progress here if levels 1 and 2 feel solid. Movement quality still comes first
✅ Start with 5–10 reps depending on experience and control
✅ If cleared by a trainer or physio, heavier sets of 1–5 reps may be appropriate

Level 3 exercises:
1. Barbell Squat (no box, slow/controlled) – 3–4x5–10
2. Barbell RDL – 3–4x5–10 or Deadlift – 3–4x5–8
3. Barbell Bench Press – 3–4x5–10
4. Assisted Pull-Ups or Pull-Ups – 3–5 sets of 3+ reps
(or aim for 10–20 reps total, using as many sets as needed)
5. Walking Lunge – 3x6–10 each leg
6. Seated Shoulder Press – 3x10 (alternate each arm)
7. Pendlay Row – 3x6–10
8. Core: Ab Roller – 3x10

LEVEL 2 GYM EXERCISES FOR TEAM SPORT ATHLETES

If you’ve mastered the level 1 exercises and you’re ready to step things up, this one’s for you.

✅ Perfect for athletes training more consistently (2–3x/week or in off/pre-season)
✅ Only progress when level 1 feels solid — good form always comes first
✅ Start with 6–12 reps depending on experience and comfort with the weight
✅ Build confidence first — then reduce reps and increase load if needed

Level 2 exercises:
1. Barbell Box Squat – 3x6–10
2. Single-Leg RDL – 3x6–12 each leg
3. Dumbbell Bench Press – 3x6–12
4. Single-Arm Cable Pulldown – 3x6–12
5. Walking Lunge – 3x6–12 each leg
6. Seated Shoulder Press – 3x10 each arm
7. Single-Arm Cable Row – 3x6–12
8. Core: Dead Bugs OR Cable Rotation / Woodchop (3x10 each side)

LEVEL 1 GYM EXERCISES FOR TEAM SPORT ATHLETES.

Following on from our last post.. Resistance training is essential for better performance and injury prevention, and this exercise series is the perfect place to start.

✅ Perfect for in-season athletes or anyone training 1–2x/week
✅ Focus on form first — technique always matters more than weight
✅ Start with 8–12 reps to get used to movement patterns
✅ Short on time? Drop to 2 sets instead of 3

Level 1 exercises:
1. Reverse Lunge – 3x10 each leg
2. Dumbbell RDL (can also use kettlebells) – 3x10
3. Slow Eccentric Push-Up – 3 challenging sets
4. Lat Pulldown – 3x10
5. Goblet Squat – 3x10
6. Half-Kneeling Shoulder Press – 3x10 each arm
7. Seated Row – 3x10
8. Core: Hollow Hold (3x30 sec) or Russian Twist (3x10 each side)
