Why some injuries keep coming back

One of the most common frustrations we see in clinic is when an injury seems to improve… only to flare up again once training, running, gym or sport resumes.

This pattern often shows up in:
• Runner’s knee
• Achilles pain
• Ankle sprains
• Shoulder pain from gym
• Tennis elbow or gripping pain
• Hamstring strains
• ACL rehab and return to sport

In many cases, it’s not simply a matter of needing more rest.

Recurring injuries often come back when:
• the original issue hasn’t been fully identified
• rehab hasn’t matched the demands of your activity or sport
• strength and load tolerance haven’t been rebuilt enough
• return to sport happens too soon

Chelsea Peers is our APA Titled Sports & Exercise Physiotherapist, helping active individuals return to movement, training and sport with greater confidence and clarity.

Chelsea can assist with:
✔️ Advanced assessment
✔️ Individualised rehab planning
✔️ Return to sport guidance
✔️ Reducing re-injury risk

If you keep ending up back at square one, the right assessment can make all the difference.

Big news for our team 👏

Chelsea is now a APA Titled Sports & Exercise Physiotherapist through the Australian Physiotherapy Association.

So what does that mean?

Titling is awarded to a physiotherapist who has met the requirements of a formalised assessment process — demonstrating highly developed experience and knowledge in their field of practice.

An APA Titled Physio is someone with advanced, verified expertise in a specific area (such as sports, musculoskeletal, or pain management). This includes extensive postgraduate education (Master’s level), years of clinical experience, and rigorous assessment of their knowledge and skills.

It’s formal recognition by the Australian Physiotherapy Association of advanced expertise in sports injury management, prevention, and rehabilitation.

For you, it means:
🔹 Evidence-based treatment
🔹 Individualised care
🔹 A physio who keeps up to date with the latest research

If something’s been lingering, not quite right, or you’ve been putting it off — now’s a great time to get it checked.

Your body deserves to be understood, not just “managed”.

What is Sports Physiotherapy?

Sports physiotherapy is a advanced area of physio focused on how your body performs under load.

It’s not just about treating pain, it’s about helping you recover from injury, reduce the risk of it happening again, and return to training or sport with confidence.

And it’s not just for elite athletes.

If you:
🔹 Run
🔹 Lift weights
🔹 Play team sport
🔹 Train regularly
🔹 Live an active lifestyle

- sports physio is for you.

How is it different from general physio?
Sports physiotherapy takes a performance and load-focused approach to rehab and movement.

It emphasises:

🔹 Movement quality under load
🔹 Progressive strength and conditioning
🔹 Individualised rehabilitation
🔹 Return-to-sport planning
🔹 Building long-term resilience

While general physiotherapy supports a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions, sports physiotherapy provides additional focus for those who train regularly, play sport, or want structured guidance for higher physical demands.

Pain often means your body’s capacity doesn’t yet match the demands placed on it. Sports physio helps build that capacity so you can move and train with confidence.

You might need a sports physio if:
• Pain keeps returning when you train
• Tendon pain flares after activity
• You’ve had recurring injuries
• Recovery feels slow
• You’re returning to sport after surgery
• You want to prevent injury, not just react to it

Sports physiotherapy bridges the gap between feeling “okay” and being ready for real training demands.

Sports physiotherapy is available with Chelsea Peers at our clinic — providing structured rehab, performance-based care, and return-to-sport guidance tailored to you.

Supervised exercise isn’t just about counting reps, it’s about training with purpose.

Whether you’re rebuilding after injury or working to prevent one, your program should match your body, your goals, and your current capacity.

🔹 Exercises chosen for you
🔹 Technique corrected in real time
🔹 Load progressed at the right pace
🔹 Small issues picked up early

You’re not guessing. You’re building.

With clear progressions, objective strength markers, accountability, and a safe space to rebuild trust in your body — supervision changes the outcome.

Because recovery and prevention aren’t just physical… they’re mental too. 💪

Know Your Body: Why Strength Protects You

Strength isn’t just about lifting heavier weights — it’s about giving your body the capacity to move safely and efficiently.

Strong muscles:
• Absorb load and reduce strain on joints
• Support and stabilise your body during everyday movement
• Improve confidence and control in how you move

Building strength helps prevent injury, maintain mobility, and protect your body long-term.

Remember — it’s not about perfection. It’s about function, resilience, and capacity for the life you want to live.

No matter where you're at in your strength journey, we can help you build safely and effectively.

Stiffness doesn’t automatically mean damage. 🚨

Stiffness is often your body’s response to change, not injury. It commonly shows up when:
• You’ve been sitting or inactive for a while
• Training or daily loads increase or decrease
• Muscles and joints need gradual re-exposure to movement

When stiffness improves as you move, it’s usually a sign your tissues are safe but need consistent, gentle loading to adapt.

If stiffness is persistent, worsening, or limiting your usual activities, that’s when an assessment can help clarify what’s going on and guide the next steps.

Pain is your body’s warning system 🚨 — not a damage report.

You can have pain without tissue injury, and you can have tissue healing even while pain is still present.
Pain is influenced by things like:
• Stress
• Sleep
• Fatigue
• Previous injuries
• How safe your body feels to move

Understanding this helps take fear out of pain — and supports recovery that’s smarter, not slower.

If pain feels confusing or is lingering longer than expected, that’s your cue to get it checked.
