This was originally meant to be a "what I've been eating 6 weeks postpartum" post... But I'm now 3 months postpartum and time has flown by ๐Ÿ˜ฎ mum-life clearly got in the way of me putting this together earlier โ˜บ๏ธ

My focus is on this postpartum journey is just to nourish myself with wholefoods as much as I can. This is so I'm getting enough nutrients for myself, have good energy in the day and also nourishing Jackson (as I'm breastfeeding and that's very nutrient demanding)

There's no "bounce-back" diet here ๐Ÿ™…๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ I'm all about supporting my body and very much enjoying all the extra energy (aka food) my body is needing during this time ๐Ÿค—

Here's my 5 top tips you might find helpful to manage pregnancy nausea. The most important is working out your triggers and trying to manage them as best as you can ๐Ÿ™

For me I found eating right away after getting up and eating regularly snacks the most helpful ๐Ÿ˜Œ

Does alcohol impact fertility?๐Ÿท

If you want to improve your fertility then yes, I big help is to start reducing your alcohol intake.

Alcohol is inflammatory to the body (it increases oxidative damage), this is the main reason I recommend seriously cutting back on it if youโ€™re planning to conceive.

Alcohol has a massive impact on both the fertility and the quality of egg and s***m quality.

For men, alcohol has been associated with reduced testosterone levels, increased s***m abnormalities, reduced s***m concentration, increased s***m DNA fragmentation and mitochondrial damage.

For women, alcohol has been associated with affecting menstrual cycle regularity, increasing anovulation (not ovulating) and impacting egg quality.

In an ideal world itโ€™s best to completely remove alcohol during the preconception period. However I completely understand how this is likely unrealistic for most, so just aiming for a max of 2 standard drinks per week (for each partner), is really going to help support your body to be in itโ€™s prime for conception ๐Ÿ’ช

What do endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDC's) and fertility have in common?

A: they do not favours for your hormones and fertility!

As the name suggests, Endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCโ€™s) interfere with the endocrine system, this means that they affect our hormonal system by blocking or mimicking hormonal signals. It's important to note that EDC's can also affect other systems of the body, not just the endocrine system. They're just bad news in general ๐Ÿ˜’

EDCโ€™s include: phthalates, BPA (and BPA alternatives), parabens, pesticides, heavy metals and persistent organic pollutants. These chemicals can be found in an array of different products such as food packaging, childrenโ€™s toys, cleaning products, perfume, soaps, nail polish, flooring etc etcโ€ฆ

These chemicals have the potential to reduce testosterone levels, reduce s***m count, reduce s***m morphology and motility. They have also been been shown to disrupt the menstrual cycle and have the potential to impact fertility.

Here are some simple swaps you can make at home to reduce your exposure to EDCโ€™s ๐Ÿ‘‰
