This is a common story for mobile services like Chameleon and our other mobile friends.

No travel means no therapy for many families in metro, regional and remote areas.

Please add your voice to the campaign to stop the NDIS cuts.

I work with a child who currently eats two foods. That’s right, only two.

How do I now tell this family who has experienced medical trauma and family violence that I can no longer see them in their home to deliver their dietetic and feeding therapy support? How can I tell them that they can no longer access a life sustaining support in the place that affords them safety, comfort and a feeling of regulation. How do I tell them that I cannot deliver best practice by providing therapy in their natural environment.

They don’t have car, nor could they afford the time and transport costs to visit a clinic. And given their traumatic history, they don’t feel safe out in the community and have difficulty being in medical environments.

It has taken almost a year for me to complete all aspects of my assessment with them as I needed to build a trusting and safe relationship. Not just rapport but a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship. For them to feel comfortable enough with me to unmask, to allow me into their world so that I can understand their reasons for approaching food and eating in the way that they do.

I didn’t set up a mobile business so that I could get paid to travel to people in their homes. I did it because the people I work with experience challenges and layers of complexity many of us could not imagine. I did it because it is the best way to support clients to feel safe, comfortable, valued and actually achieve the changes that benefit their lives the most.

The cuts to the NDIA will isolate our most vulnerable. They will put people at risk of harm. They will reduce the developmental potential of children. They will cost lives.

We know that the government has a job to do with reforming the NDIS, so that it meets the individual needs of participants, alongside being a fiscally responsible scheme for all Australians.
But let’s pause these reforms that will guarantee that NDIS participants lose their essential services.

We have solutions NDIA. Hear us. Pause the reforms. Co-design with us and the people who have the lived experience.

Another petition you may like to sign regarding the impact of the NDIS funding cuts.

The NDIS have released the Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits, which start on the 1st July 2025.

The biggest change for families is that the NDIS has cut the travel price for allied health therapists to half the therapy rate. There is also a limit on how much travel time therapists can claim.

As a result, many therapists are now working out if they can continue to offer therapy at home, kindergartens, or schools.

The best thing to do is to contact your children’s therapists to ask if they will still travel to you.

🔹Have your say🔹

ACD is very concerned about this change. It is best practice for children to see therapists at home, kinder, school and other community settings. We know for many children and families it is not possible to get to clinic-based services.

We are raising our concerns with the NDIS. You can help.

Let us know what it will mean for your child and family if your child's therapist can’t travel to see you.

Please complete this short survey: Survey has now closed, thank you to the hundreds of families who completed the survey. Read our comment below for what we heard.

The NDIS is too valuable to be thrown around as a cost cutting exercise.

We don’t often get super political. But enough is enough.

We will be joining our colleagues in protesting and speaking up for our ability to keep working with our clients and stakeholders.

We will be sharing more information in the coming days and would greatly appreciate any support you may be able to give to fight back against the devaluing of the NDIS.

Chameleon Kris is wearing her sparkles on the outside today in celebration of Childhood Dementia Awareness Day.

Just like adults, kids can suffer from decline in brain function, impacting on all areas of their life. Tragically kids with childhood dementia also have a much shorter life expectancy, many dying before the age of 18.

We desperately need more research to help develop therapies to support these kids and their families.

It's almost Childhood Dementia Awareness Day!

You may be familiar with some of the symptoms of adult dementia. Kids also suffer from these symptoms like confusion, loss of memory, loss of speech and more.

Each child’s experience with dementia is unique. All children with dementia, however, face one common challenge: childhood dementia is progressive. Over months, years or decades, as their brains are damaged more and more, they progressively lose skills they’ve already developed such as the ability to write, read, talk, walk and play. Their brains also lose the ability to keep the body functioning properly and, eventually, to keep the body alive.

We are proud to support the Face It campaign. Chameleon Kris and our client Toby have been busy this morning decorating faces :) You can find out more about Childhood Dementia here https://www.childhooddementia.org/
