Gestational diabetes is a type of diabetes that develops during pregnancy. Between 5-10% of pregnant women will develop gestational diabetes (1).

It may be upsetting to be diagnosed with gestational diabetes, but it is important to manage gestational diabetes to ensure that both you and bub are healthy! 👶💕 Talk to your GP and healthcare team to get the support you need throughout your pregnancy 🩷💜

An "annual cycle of care" is essentially a checklist to help you and your healthcare team monitor and manage your diabetes. This checklist involves :

🔎 Monitoring your blood glucose levels at home
👁 Seeing the optometrist if you notice changes in your vision, or every 1-2 years
🦶 Visiting the podiatrist at least once a year for foot care
🔬 A urine test at least once a year to check your kidney function
🩸 HbA1c blood test 1-4x a year and cholesterol levels every 12 months
