NSW Premier not told of leak of secret addresses from QR code dataset.

NSW Customer Service Minister Victor Dominello never alerted the Premier of the accidental leak of hundreds of secret addresses contained in a QR check-in database.
It was revealed last month the addresses, including locations of domestic violence shelters and critical infrastructure sites, had been uploaded to a public government website.

Mr Dominello told a budget estimates hearing on Monday he was first told of the incident on September 30, 2021 and that he received updates twice in the following month.

He said he didn‘t tell Premier Dominic Perrottet because the Customer Services department had already resolved the matter by alerting the Privacy Commissioner.

Australian businesses warned to brace for cyber attacks as countries take ‘opportunity’
Australian businesses have been warned to take extra precautions against cyber attacks in the aftermath of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Defence Minister Peter Dutton said analysts were concerned about attacks, whether they were directed at Australia or “collateral damage” from other broader attacks.

“We should be realistic about that threat, businesses should take extra protections,” Mr Dutton told ABC’s Radio National.
He advised people to visit the Australian Signals Directorate website and the Australian Cyber Security Centre website to get the latest information.

Massive and dangerous' data breach sees more than 500,000 QR code check-in addresses published - even including domestic violence shelters

More than 500,000 QR code check-in addresses across Australia were leaked in a 'massive and dangerous' data breach for which the NSW government is to blame.

The system designed to help the public through the Covid-19 pandemic could now be putting Australians in danger as the leak has revealed the locations of domestic violence shelters, Defence sites and even a missile maintenance unit.
