Undoubtedly s*x hormones estrogen and progesterone impact the tissue extensibility of those who menstruate or have ceased menstruation. However, the impact of the menstrual cycle on a person’s flexibility is unique. Flexibility is so much more than just the range available to a joint/ extensibility of tissue, and other biological and psychosocial factors can play a more significant role in a person’s flexibility.

Published: Apr 28, 2022 For most people, prioritising consistent, goal-specific flexibility training will impact flexibility more than their cycle.

With more people needing to isolate as close Covid -19 contacts, I am hearing more insta- coaches decree that ISO is no excuse to lose training gains. While I endorse maintaining your training routine, if you can, this sentiment screams of Kim Kardashian-esq privilege and lack of insight.

If you can practically continue training in ISO (e.g. you have time available after keeping yourself alive, working from home, homeschooling, caring duties etc.), it's important to be realistic and kind to yourself. You won't come out of isolation more flexible than when you went in no matter how hard you work. A week or two is nothing in your flexibility journey. If you can train, aim to maintain, be consistent and stay injury-free. And remember you don't have to earn the right to rest.

It can feel awful when you challenge yourself training flexibility. It’s common to have sessions where you feel disheartened, hopeless, and think you will never improve. This usually isnt the reality, and is the perfect time to use photos as evidence of your progress.

Move it, Load it, Use it

AirSpace was founded in 2013 by circus aerialist Ashley Lau and ex-Cirque Du Soleil physiotherapist Trevor Aung Than. Their goal was to develop a workout inspired by their experience in the circus world, that was accessible to all.

AirRestore formed to keep ALL people moving, training and performing at their best by providing world class physiotherapy services.

AirRestore Physiotherapists’ Trevor Aung Than and Ashleigh Flanagan are experienced physiotherapists that have worked with elite and world class athletes. They are also body weight Aerial Fitness coaches at AirSpace.

At AirRestore we want you to keep training, moving and doing what you love. We use a range of techniques including dry needling, massage, and manual therapy combined with exercise rehabilitation, and sport specific training to get you back to it sooner. We also have a strong focus on injury prevention and performance optimisation.
