Less is not always more. 🫠

This beautiful hard working no BS client came into clinic last week before Easter. After a few questions and some accurate calculations it was obvious she wasn’t eating enough due to her incredibly high BMR due to her amazing high muscle mass. 💪🏼

She was training hard and not seeing the results purely due to under fuelling, not eating badly but not eating enough- she was already eating my recipes but only 1900 calories a day, we bumped it up to 2400-2500 calories a day which is still a calorie deficit for her, and the result… her energy is up and cravings are down! ✔️

If you are training more than 4 times a week, constantly think about food and wonder why your results don’t show, it is highly likely that you don’t eat enough and this is exactly why we don’t offer generic nutrition at Happy Healthy not even with our on-line program because I have seen first hand what these other generic programs can do to women’s health, hormones and thyroid and I’m not here for it!

Easter weekend, the simple joyful pleasures of life ❤️

From walks to .bread for croissants 🥐, family time on the new deck, BBQ up north with old friends, sweat sessions , Easter egg hunts, rides into Freo, drinks with local friends & , getting lots of projects done at home and eating delicious food… it’s been a good one. ❤️

👉🏼Nutrition Seminar I loved seeing this gym. Chris and I go way back from when we both started. It was great getting to educate his members and meet the crew. I’m excited for more collaborations in the future.. hopefully 😉

👉🏼More new functional & metabolic nutrition coaching clients in-clinic with amazing life changing results.

On a personal level I also put myself first:
👉🏼Joined as my new gym and I’m loving the change. Getting 3-5 sessions a week.
👉🏼Family time was a top priority with a weekend down south for a family reunion, and weekend at the Crown with my lover
👉🏼 Got my DNA genetic test results and started making some changes, more to come! I love this stuff! Worth the investment for sure 10/10!
👉🏼 Holistic Wellness days with .australia (I now class networking as part of health, it’s important to surround yourself with like minded people and interests)
👉🏼 Had an appointment with yesterday to get on top of peri-menopause from the get go. Dr Niamh Leonard was amazing, I highly recommend her and we know I’m fussy in this space. So detailed and asked so many questions about health and lifestyle. The best 💃🏻

All in all a great month! Now for April, how are we 1/4 way into the year already 😳

5 High Protein & Fibre meals I ate this week to maintain my healthy weight, fuel my training and build muscle!

Every single one of these meals has 35+ grams of protein per serve.

Beef Stir-fry with rice noodles (using 200 grams of beef per serve)

Cured Salmon, scrambled eggs and mushrooms from (I only ate one slice of bread)

Thai Green Chicken Curry (using 200 grams of chicken per serve)

Chia seed pudding with berries using whey isolate & collagen

Pulled Beef Veg Bowl with salad and pickles 🥒 (using 200 grams of pulled beef)

Aside from the fact you can see these meals are high in protein and fibre, there is also a LOT of variety in the food I’ve eaten which ensures I get a LOT of nutrients to prevent deficiencies. Plus it’s all whole food nutrition.

This is just some examples of the meals I eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner and in between these meals I’ll snack to support energy balance (blood sugars), or to fuel my training. My snacks can be anything from fruit, nuts, high protein yogurt, veg sticks with hummus or a cheeky home made raw treat!

I spent my 20’s counting calories, struggling out my weight and starting over again every Monday.

At 25 I decided to get really fit. By 31 I was a qualified nutritionist but I was still focused way too much on my physical appearance. Now at 40 after 10 years experience working in clinic seeing clients 1:1 and seeing the damage first hand of what under fuelling can do to women I am proud to say that I eat for performance, longevity and strength and I’ve never felt better.

Don’t fall into the skinny trap now that it’s trending again, because healthy looks so dam good on you!! 😉

Sharing nutrition knowledge genuinely lights me up… but moments like yesterday speaking reminds me how much people still don’t know…. And I need to learn to keep it simple 🫣

Most people didn’t know what macros were.
No one knew what micros were.
No one was tracking macros. Not that I’m a fan of tracking but when you lack knowledge it’s a great place to start. 😉
And some women were still only focusing on calories.

That’s the problem.

Calories alone don’t build a healthy, high-performing body — macros do.

Let’s break it down 👇

Macros = protein, carbs and fats!

These are the nutrients that make up your calories and determine how your body actually functions.
✔ 1g protein = 4 calories
✔ 1g carbs = 4 calories
✔ 1g fat = 9 calories

So yes, calories matter…
But where those calories come from matters more.

Protein is your foundation.
Without enough protein you cannot:
– Build muscle
– Recover properly
– Support hormones
A solid target?
👉 2g per kg of body weight
Example:
60kg = 120g protein/day (minimum)
Set your protein first. Always.

Carbs are not the enemy — they’re your fuel.
Most active people (especially women) are under-eating carbs.
General guideline:
✔ ~3g/kg (general training)
✔ Up to 6g/kg (high training)
✔ Even higher for endurance athletes
Carbs support:
⚡ Energy
🦠 Gut health
🔥 Performance
💪 Recovery
Eat mostly whole food sources, and keep fibre around 25–30g/day.

Fats are essential — not optional.
Yet people are either terrified of them… or obsessed with cutting them.
Low fat =
❌ Poor hormones
❌ Low energy
❌ Mood issues
❌ Digestive problems

Fats support:
✔ Hormones
✔ Brain function
✔ Nutrient absorption
Focus on real sources:
Avocado, olive oil, oily fish, nuts, seeds.

Macros don’t compete — they work together.
Cut one too low and everything suffers.
Balance is what creates:
✔ Results
✔ Energy
✔ Longevity

I don’t track anymore because I’ve been doing this for 10+ years…
But if this feels overwhelming, start simple:
👉 Hit your protein every single day
👉 Build balanced meals around it with enough carbs and fats using whole foods!

That alone will change everything, build from there!

Helloooo, I’m Jessica Lowe- mother, entrepreneur, Nutritionist, CEO of , lover of lifting weights and eating steak…. and your biggest cheer leader!
