Descendants of the Waldeck Family

Descendants of the Waldeck Family to help each other and share information about our family history

The Waldeck story began in 1836 with the arrival at the Port of Fremantle of Frederick Waldeck and Fredericka Kniest. Arriving from from Germany via England, they volunteered as Christian missionaries and were set sail to the Swan river Colony. When the young couple arrived not long after they exchanged wedding vows at St Matthew's Church in Guildford, then creating a unique story of settlers in Western Australia.

Many thanks to Ross Oliver for donating this limited edition, 2 volumes of a transcript of Major Logue's Diaries. Logue commenced writing a Diary whilst bringing stock overland to Champion Bay in 1850. He established a pastoral station at Ellendale and kept writing a daily record of activities there up to January 1900.
The Diaries have been transcribed by Nan Broad, a massive task, taking 8 years.
The Diaries are a unique record of the colonisation of this region, and we are honoured to receive these copies for this museum's library.
Pictured below, Nan Broad presenting the Diaries to museum curator, Gary Martin.

Greenough Museum & Gardens is open for 2026 remember if you are driving by pop in for a visit to reconnect & check out the Maley copper frypan! 🍳

A recent donation is the massive early 19th century copper frying pan.
Just the sort of cooking utensil a mother of 14 like Elizabeth Maley would have required.

Any ideas what recipe this would be?

Just found this recipe written on the reverse of an 1864 docket-
"1 dram ? Potash
1 pint ? water warm
One wine glass three times daily "
Can you work out what the ? words are, and any idea why it would be taken?
