“If I’m focusing on body composition, energy and repair, what should my protein intake look like?”

Here are my 3 top tips for nailing protein:

1. Have an even protein distribution through out the day. This is better for blood sugar and energy ⚡️

2. Eat less often but optimise protein at each meal to get a higher gram amount. 🥩

3. Choose clean sources Keep your protein sources as clean as possible. You’ll get better bang for your buck 🌱

Psychosocial warning flag: “I’ve just got to make it through until the end of the year”

October is the new black when it comes to burnout and if you’re hearing these ripples among your team then now is the time to act.

We don’t just want to “make it” through to the end of 2025. We want to nail it!

Exhaustion and mental and physical depletion are very real right now. But they’re also cultural cues. And culture can be shifted. We have the power to reframe it into something positive, energising and meaningful.

I know how to fight to survive - because I’ve been doing it my whole life.

Raised by a strong single woman in South Africa, I learned early on that no one is coming to save you.

When my children were born, I was faced with the hardest fight of my life.
We spent five years in the medical system desperate for answers. 18 surgeries, countless nights in hospital, and a life full of machines and medical procedures, while my boys health wasted away.

Yet at every turn, I was told “this is normal,” that I was the problem, that there was nothing wrong with my babies.

Medical gaslighting.
Dismissal.
I was made to feel completely crazy.

But I knew deep down that something was very wrong.

I had nothing but a gut instinct to go on. And
against all odds, I made a choice: to fight for my boys.

I radically took their health into my own hands.
I went on a journey to understand food, the power of the human body, and how to heal itself.

Eventually my boys were diagnosed with a rare genetic immune disease and through sheer holistic persistence we turned their health around.

That fight became my mission. It taught me the power of food, listening to my intuition, never settling, practising forgiveness, and the power of taking radical responsibility for not only our own health - but the generations to come.

Our story is the miracle proof that when you change your health - you change everything.

I was today years old when I heard the term “inflammaging”.

I’ve been around the block for 10 years in the health space and don’t think I’ve ever heard a word so accurate for why we would never want to ruin our bodies again. 😂

So the science-y explanation of inflammaging is the chronic low grade build up of inflammation from diet, toxins and lifestyle that activates the immune system and starts to damage our internal organs and cells.

Inflammation + ageing = Inflammaging.

What that looks like is what we start to label as “just getting old”. Niggles, aches, pains, weight gain, disease markers. And - an exhaustion-driven acceptance of mediocre health often fed by society’s narrative that getting old must somehow mean a catastrophic break down of the human body.

Think of it like a fire that never goes out - just smouldering in the background, wearing the body down.

That adds years in the ageing process - really fast.

But your cells are in a regenerative state every day (and people forget this!)

The choice between:

- convenience fast foods vs a high protein whole foods diet;
- no exercise (or too much cardio) vs a little resistance training and walking;
- alcohol vs hydration;
- addressing infections and health imbalances vs avoiding them;
- and disciplined rest and recovery

All turn the dial of inflammation up or down.

I’ve decided I’d rather be “Optimaging” than “Inflammaging” 👏 - and I’d encourage you to do the same.

What nutrition gave me back 10 years ago wasn’t just the physical benefits of feeling better or looking better. I was already eating “well”. I was a type A high achiever and energy (or getting things done) was never a problem for me.

Nutrition gave me back ownership.

I say this all the time, but taking back control of your food is the most empowering decision you can ever make when the world around you (and inside you) feels like it’s falling apart.

Food is one of the few autonomous choices we have left to make.

You take back control of your nutrition - you become the driver of your own life again.

And the ripple effect from that small conscious decision every day will change your thinking forever. ✨
