If you're researching baby swim schools in Perth, here's what we think every parent deserves to know before they book, and why it matters more than most people realise.

πŸ‘‰Not all swim schools are created equal.
The temperature of the water, the size of the class, whether there's one group or six running simultaneously, whether the same teacher shows up every week, these things have a real impact on how your baby experiences the water and how quickly their confidence grows.

At Aquanat, every detail of how we run our classes has been intentional from day one. Warm water. Small groups. One class at a time. The same familiar faces. A holistic, play-based approach informed by frameworks including Halliwick, Montessori, Feldenkrais and Aquatic Bodywork.

We're not the biggest swim school in Perth. We're the one where your baby actually gets seen. πŸ’™

Did you know?

Here's something that blows most new parents' minds when they first hear it. 🀯
Babies are born with something called the diving reflex, a completely natural, involuntary response that causes them to hold their breath and open their eyes when submerged in water. It's a reflex they're born with, left over from nine months of living in fluid.

This reflex is strongest in the early months of life, and like many reflexes, it gradually fades if it isn't supported. Which is one of the key reasons early swimming matters so much and why at Aquanat, we welcome babies from as young as 10 weeks old.

By introducing your baby to water early, in a warm and supportive environment, you're building on something their body already knows how to do. We don't force or rush submersion, ever. We work at each baby's pace, with careful observation and guidance, until the moment feels completely natural for both baby and parent.

When that first underwater moment happens? It's one of the most remarkable things you'll ever witness. πŸ’™

Here
πŸ‘‡
βœ” Your bub will start sleeping so much better. The warm water and movement do something magical for sleep cycles and parents notice it almost immediately.
βœ” You will feel more connected to your baby. Being in the water together, skin-to-skin, learning to move and breathe in sync, it's a bonding experience unlike anything else.
βœ” You will learn how to actually support your baby in the water. Proper holds, how to read their cues, when to encourage and when to ease off.
βœ” You will cry at least twice. Happy tears. Watching your baby go underwater for the first time with total calm and trust? Yeah. That'll get you every time.
βœ”You will look forward to it every single week. For a lot of new parents, getting out of the house feels hard. This became the highlight of our week.
Nobody really prepares you for how much YOU get out of baby swim classes. It's not just for the bub it's for the whole family. πŸ’™

What's the difference between a hydrotherapy pool and a regular pool? πŸ‘‡

When we say Aquanat has a hydrotherapy pool, we're not just using a fancy word for "nice pool." There's actually a meaningful difference and for babies, it matters a lot.

A hydrotherapy pool is purpose-built for therapeutic and developmental use.

Here's how ours at Alfred Cove compares to a standard swim school pool πŸ‘‡

🌑️ Temperature: our pool sits at 34–35Β°C, compared to the 27–29Β°C you'd typically find at a public pool. That warmth supports infant thermoregulation, reduces the stress response, and allows babies to stay relaxed and receptive throughout their lesson.
🏊 Size and privacy: smaller and entirely private, meaning no other classes running alongside yours, no noise from crowded lanes, and no overstimulation for sensitive little nervous systems.
πŸ’§ Water quality: we use a UV sanitation system that keeps the water crystal clear with minimal chlorine, making it much easier on young skin and eyes.
🧘 Environment: the whole space has been designed with calm in mind. It genuinely feels more like a spa than a swim school and that's completely intentional.

When the environment is right, everything else follows. πŸ’™

Real talk, Perth parents which one is your bub right now? πŸ‘‡
A) Absolute water baby. Could stay in the pool forever. Cries when you take them OUT. πŸ’™
B) Still warming up to it. Cautious but curious. Getting there session by session. 🌊
C) Screamed the entire first class and we're choosing to laugh about it now. πŸ˜…

Whatever your answer we've seen it all at Aquanat, and every single one of those babies has gone on to become a confident, happy swimmer.
That's the thing about starting early and doing it in the right environment. Warm water. Small groups. The same familiar faces every week. A calm, unhurried pace that meets each baby exactly where they are.

Drop your answer below β€” A, B, or C β€” and tell us a little about your bub's water journey so far. We genuinely love hearing from you. πŸ’™

Here's something that surprises almost every new family who walks through our doors.

At Aquanat, only one class runs at a time. Your baby's group has the entire pool to themselves. No other classes splashing alongside them. No noise from the lane next door. No overstimulation from a busy, chaotic environment.

Just one small group of up to 6 babies, one teacher, and a calm, focused space where every child actually gets seen.

We know this is different from most swim schools and that's entirely the point.

Babies, especially in those early months, are incredibly sensitive to their environment. Too much noise, too many people, too much going on at once and their nervous systems go into overdrive.

Learning doesn't happen when a baby is overwhelmed. But in a calm, warm, distraction-free space - That's where the magic happens.

It's one of the reasons Perth families drive from Fremantle, South Perth, Applecross, Mosman Park and beyond to come to us at Alfred Cove. The difference is something you feel the moment you walk in. πŸ’™

Baby swim classes often get written off as a "nice to have", a fun outing, a cute experience.

But what's actually happening developmentally during those sessions is pretty remarkable.

Here are 5 real skills your baby is building every time they come to Aquanat πŸ‘‡
1️⃣ Physical strength and coordination β€” moving through water requires full-body effort. Babies build strength, flexibility, stamina and kinaesthetic awareness with every session.
2️⃣ Breath control and early submersion β€” learning to manage breath in and around water is a foundational safety skill that begins earlier than most people think.
3️⃣ Emotional regulation β€” warm water, calm movement, and a consistent, familiar environment help babies learn to self-settle and manage new sensory experiences.
4️⃣ Social awareness β€” even in a small group of 6, babies begin picking up on social cues, learning to share space, and engaging with the world beyond home.
5️⃣ Confidence and trust β€” perhaps the most important one. A baby who trusts the water, trusts their parent in the water, and trusts themselves to try new things carries that confidence everywhere.

All of this, starting from 10 weeks old. πŸ’™

Here are the signs your baby is ready for swim classes at Aquanat πŸ‘‡

βœ… They're 10 weeks or older, that's our starting age, and it's intentional. Those early weeks allow babies to build on their natural affinity for water and preserve the dive reflex they were born with, before that window begins to narrow.

βœ… They’re generally healthy and developing well, by this stage, most babies have had their health checks, their immune system is devleoped, and they are ready to benefit from a new sensory and learning environment.

βœ… You're ready to be in the water too, parent participation is central to our program, so this is as much about you as it is about your bub.

βœ… You want to start building water safety and confidence early, especially in WA, where water is part of everyday life.

And honestly? The most reliable sign of all is this: if you're reading this caption and thinking "maybe it's time" it probably is. πŸ’™

We hear this one a lot and we completely understand why.
It can feel like a big step, especially in those early weeks when everything feels new and a little overwhelming.

But here's what we know after 35+ years of working with babies in the water: newborns are born with a natural affinity for water. They've spent nine months in fluid. The water isn't foreign to them , it's familiar. And when that natural connection is supported early, in the right environment, with the right guidance, it becomes the foundation for a lifetime of confidence and safety in the water.

At Aquanat, we welcome babies from 10 weeks old into a warm (34–35Β°C), private, calm hydrotherapy pool. Classes are small up to 6 babies max and parents are in the water the whole time. Every session is shaped around your baby's pace and readiness, never rushed, never forced.

There's no "too early" here. There's just the right moment and for a lot of Perth families, that moment is sooner than they expected. πŸ’™

At Aquanat, a baby swim class is a whole lot more than water familiarisation and splashing around. Here's what's actually happening in the pool during each session πŸ‘‡

🌊Comfort, confidence and movement: supporting babies to maintain their natural affinity with water, and feel at ease through guided exploration, purposeful play, and natural movement.

πŸ’§ Breath control and early submersion: thoughtfully and progressively building toward confident underwater experiences, always at your baby’s pace.

🀝 Parent-guided holds and techniques: teaching YOU how to support your baby safely and confidently in the water, so you feel as capable as they do

🧠 Sensory and cognitive engagement: play-based activities that encourage curiosity, focus, and early learning.

πŸ’™ Connection and bonding: because sharing warm water together, often skin-to-skin, is one of the most meaningful ways to connect with your baby.

Every session is shaped around your baby’s individual readiness. No two babies are the same, and our teaching reflects that. πŸ’™
