Matt has conquered his challenge from Geraldton to Perth on foot, covering a very long 425km over 6 days! Matt set out to do this challenge to raise awareness for mental health through the shaka project. Whilst raising awareness, Matt's fundraising efforts were also outstanding, raising over $13k for The Shaka Project. We are proud of what Matt has been able to achieve for an extremely important cause - showing both mental and physical resilience throughout. We were also proud to sponsor this fundraiser with Matt as Regenerate highly values the importance of mental health and speaking up when in need.

We are excited for Matthew as he approaches the tail end of his preparations for his next big running challenge - Striding for Shakas. Proudly sponsored by Regenerate Health & Rehabilitation, Striding for Shakas is an event created by Matt in support of 'The Shaka Project' https://theshakaproject.com/ for all the work they put in towards helping those going through mental health challenges and reducing the stigma surrounding it.
From Monday the 19th of May, Matthew will be running from Gerraldton to Perth totalling 420km and averaging 84km per day!
You can support this cause by donating to Matt's page here:

He has been working hard training and will be working even harder come the 19th, so please donate whatever you can to such a great cause that is mental health.

To all of our valued gym members, clients and partners,

Thank you for the time, effort and good company you have given us throughout this year. The last 6 months have flown by, but we can look back on it and say we are very proud of our efforts. After taking on the business in July, I've appreciated the strong support and encouragement received from our members, staff and client base greatly. There have been some very long days and there will be more to come, but it's all worth it for the health service we can provide to so many people as allied health professionals.

We wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas and all the best for the new year ahead. We look forward to seeing you in 2025!

Here are some of the many highlights we have had over the last 6 months...

December is upon us which means Movember has come to a close, as has Matt's huge challenge of running 500km in 1 month! The deed has been done and all 500km have been completed and we never doubted him. Congratulations goes to Matt for the mental and physical resilience displayed through the month.

We would also like to thank everyone that contributed to Matt and the Regenerate Mo Bro's page throughout the month which helped the overall total get to an impressive $3.5K - well done to Matt for driving this too.

The Mo's are also worthy of mention... As you can see, also lead by Matt, the top lip was kept well shaded throughout the month. We can confirm the evidence has been removed and we look forward to another round next year!

Let's not forget what it's all for - raising awareness, funds and starting conversations about 3 key aspects of men's health:
MENTAL HEALTH
PROSTATE CANCER
TESTICULAR CANCER
All 3 have very interesting statistics and facts which we have sent out to our members. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you would like to find out more too.

That's a wrap for our Pink October Fundraiser. We set out to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer along with women's health and wellbeing. Collectively, we raised $5,637 for the National Breast Cancer Foundation and would like to thank all those who contributed to this great cause.

Pink Gym Day saw lots of our members wear pink to their workout and we were very impressed with some of the outfits on display, as seen in some of the images attached.

Steps For Strength saw many of our gym community front up in pink again and hit the Lake Monger walking track. The aim was to walk 7km to represent the 1 in 7 women diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. A great turn out and very nice to see so many get involved in this community event.

We would like to congratulate our prize winners...
Major prize winner of the Women's health care package:
- Linley D
Linley receives a 1 hour massage, 50 minute dietician consult and 3 month gym membership including 3 Exercise Physiology sessions for donating over $25 and going into our prize draw.

Best dressed on Pink Gym Day:
- The Watson Family led by Tash
- Jan W
- Belinda L

We would like to thank those who contributed to our events:
- Loretta from Scope Nutrition for contributing to both events and donating a much valued dietician consult. Our members also appreciated your time on Pink Gym day.
- Adam at Regenerate Physiotherapy for donating a much valued massage voucher.
- Nicole D for her contributions to our morning tea.
- Teall Jewellery for their contributions to our prize pool.

The National Breast Cancer Foundation recorded over $700k worth of donations and we are proud of our efforts to have been able to contribute in the way we did. We value women's health and wellbeing at Regenerate and are grateful for the women in our lives. Thank you again to everyone who got involved!

After 20 years of running a successful and wholesome business at Regenerate Fitness and Rehabilitation, Adam has handed the gym reigns over with big shoes to fill.

Established in 2004, the gym has successfully assisted so many people in achieving a healthier lifestyle, body and mind whilst working around any barriers along the way. Adam’s efforts in facilitating this for such a sustained period of time is commendable, so a big congratulations goes to you Adam. I look forward to continuing our strong relationship as partners in health with Regenerate Physiotherapy

Personally, I am very grateful, proud and excited to be taking over the business and continuing Regenerate’s strong reputation moving forward. I have worked here for over 8 years and managed for over 5, watching our gym community grow together during this time. Having an exceptional team, and client base has made coming to work so much more enjoyable.

Thank you to our members and clients who have made the transition so easy with all of your encouragement and well wishes, it is very much appreciated. I look forward to working with you all in a position that I’m very lucky to have, and one that means a lot to me.

Watch this Regenerate space…

Sincerely,
Andrew Tomich

Are We Over-Training Our Kids?

Most kids/teens winter sports are now well underway and we are already seeing many over-use injuries presenting to the practice. In the past few years we are seeing more overuse injuries, bony stress reactions and stress fractures in kids/teens than previously. Many kids play multiple sports over winter and combined with school sport and often cross country running the load becomes too much for growing bodies. The key risk factors seem to be a sudden or significant increase in running/training load during a growth spurt.

The key areas to watch out for are:

1) Low back pain with running/jumping that does not resolve within 1-2 weeks and hurts more with bending backwards than forwards. This can be a sign of an early stress fracture of the back. These are common in cricket fast bowlers and also in basketballers.

2) Foot stress fractures are very common and can affect the metatarsals, cuboid, talus and navicular. Navicular stress fractures can be particularly nasty and keep kids out of sport for more than a year.

3) Growth plate stress response injuries including Osgood-Schlatters at the knee and Severs at the ankle

4) Any other persistent non-traumatic pain present for more than 2 weeks – We have seen stress fractures of the lower leg, ribs, shoulder blade, pelvis and more.

To summarise: If your child or teen has had a recent growth spurt, has increased their activity levels rapidly and has significant pain of unknown origin then one possibility is a stress reaction or stress fracture. Have them seen by an experienced Physiotherapist or Sports Doctor asap and remove them from sport until they have been assessed. Diagnosis is made from patient history, clinical examination and often MRI. A comprehensive rehabilitation program addressing biomechanical issues, strength, running technique and muscle imbalance is vital in preventing these injuries from recurring.
