Front Runner Trained Profile: Toni Heinemann

Toni has been training with the team for well over a decade and achieved incredible results, highlighted by national marathon team🥈 and a 2.47 Marathon PB. She is now building up around a busy work and family life for new goals.

➡️When did you get started on your running journey?
I started running consistently in uni in 2005- just 4-5km a day for my mental health. A work colleague finally (after 6 months of convincing me) got me to come along to some FR sessions in 2011/12 I think..

➡️Summarise what running means to you in one sentence...
Moments of calm, joy and quiet, also showing my kids that hard work and commitment pays off if its something that brings you meaning.

➡️Describe your current weekly training programme?
Run 6 times a week, recovery or cross training day and 2 brief strength sessions (one at gym and one at home)

➡️What are your current PB’s?
1:20 half, 2:47 pre kids
1:25 half, 3:01 post kids

➡️What is your proudest running achievement to date?
Probably my marathon PB in Berlin 2017 as took a lot of work to get there but also was something incredibly special about running my first marathon in 2024 with my 2 kids on the sideline. This was always my dream and running now is more about the process than the results.

➡️How long have you been with Front Runner & who is your Front Runner coach?
2012 or 11, Ben Green

➡️What have you valued most about being a athlete
The friendships I have made from the community

➡️Favourite training buddies?
Im grateful for Brendan, Em and Sarah who have been running with me since early FR days and meet me early for the social chats. I generally run a lot on my own which I have come to enjoy too.

➡️What are your short (next 12 months) and long-term goals in running?
Short term: run a sub 3 hour marathon again
Long term: continue to fit running into life in a fun and enjoyable way

➡️If you could give one piece of advice about running what would it be?
Dont be afraid to take rest days, took me years to learn this!

Front Runner Trained Profile: Ffion Williamson

Ffion is a passionate and committed runner who has already achieved amazing results. In the longer term, her goal is a sub 3 marathon and long term sustainability.

➡️When did you get started on your running journey?
I dabbled with running during my late teens, but started running consistently from Mid 2022.

➡️Summarise what running means to you in one sentence……
To me running equals freedom. Freedom to move your body, freedom to move at your own pace, freedom to explore places you otherwise can’t. The ability to run truely is one of the greatest gifts.

➡️Describe your current weekly training programme?
In an average week, I will run roughly 5 times a week, gym twice, and do roughly 3 hours of mobility pilates.

➡️What are your current PB’s?
90 min half and 3 hour 9 minute marathon.

➡️What is your proudest running achievement to date?
Sticking with it. I’ve had plenty of life changes and challenges since I started running, but running has been one of the few consistencies in my life since I started.

➡️How long have you been with Front Runner & who is your Front Runner coach?
I have been coached by Abby Dixon at Front Runner for 8 months now. Under Abby’s calm and measured coaching, my running in the last 8 months has seen some great improvements, which I put down to following Abby’s fantastic coaching advice.

➡️What have you valued most about being a athlete?
I really value having a coach that is just a text msg away, who has invaluable experience and advice regarding everything related to running.

➡️Favourite training buddies?
Sadly enough, Spotify. Podcasts on easy runs, Bicep radio for tempo and thresholds, and Taylor Swift & Florence and the Machine for everything else.

➡️What are your short (next 12 months) and long-term goals in running
Short term: two marathons this year, hopefully both under 3 hours 10 mins
Long term: Sub 3 hour marathon, and at least one marathon every year until I cannot run no more!

➡️If you could give one piece of advice about running what would it be?
For new runners, I would say just start. What is the worst thing that can happen?

In some exciting (and sad) news, last night was the final Track Tuesday in WA for our Captain Tom Moorcroft before his move to Melbourne later this week with his partner Kennedy.

Tom will continue to represent FR and will be around in Perth again shortly for the Perth Track Classic next month, but his energy, enthusiasm, lateness and horrendous mobility won’t be a regular feature each week.

All the best Tom and run strong!

Front Runner Trained Profile: Alan Morrison

After a chronic health condition abated, Alan has been chasing marathon majors across the globe.

➡️ When did you get started on your running journey?
I’m on my 2nd journey, this one started at the age of 55 (12 years ago) when I realised that my Ankylosing Spondylitis eased and I could run again after a 20 year hiatus of being on painkillers and NSAID’s.

➡️Summarise what running means to you in one sentence...
Its an opportunity to be the best version of myself.

➡️Describe your current weekly training programme?
4 runs a week, 2 strength sessions & a bit of Cross Trainer.

➡️What are your current PB’s?
Marathon 3:48:35, Half Marathon 1:42:05 and parkrun PB 21:50. The half marathon time is my all time PB, the marathon is 7 seconds slower than my younger self. The 5k is a long way off my all time PB of 17:20.

➡️What is your proudest running achievement to date?
Completing the 2025 Boston Marathon and enjoying the whole experience. I injured myself having qualified for 2024 and had to cancel, rehab the injury and then requalify, so that whole process is something I am immensely proud of.

➡️How long have you been with Front Runner & who is your Front Runner coach?
Since 2021 (Abby as Physio first) and Ben Green is my coach (since 2022).

➡️What have you valued most about being a athlete
An honest scientific approach to the training and build ups.

➡️Favourite training buddies?
Billy Nomates here, I train alone.

➡️What are your short (next 12 months) and long-term goals in running?
* Short term:
Complete the Abbot Majors with just Tokyo and Chicago to go, both locked in for 2026.
* Long term:
Complete the 9 Majors when Capetown and Shanghai come in. After that it is stay fit and maybe complete an ultra-marathon. I am thinking there is no point in aiming low – so Comrades it is !!

➡️If you could give one piece of advice about running what would it be?
As someone who has pretty much been in marathon training for around 5 yrs, I would say that Slow and Steady wins, both in training and in life. Consistency is key and embrace the discipline and just keep showing up every day doing what’s required.

Front Runner Trained Profile: Dejan Bouwhuis

Coming across from a focus on high level rowing, Dejan has made quick gains toward some lofty triathlon goals.

➡️When did you get started on your triathlon journey?
Sep 2024. I got challenged to race Busso 70.3 and enjoyed it so much I was hooked afterward.

➡️Summarise what triathlon means to you in one sentence……
Felling fit, free and caffeinated with mates

➡️Describe your current weekly training programme?
On average 14-16hrs a week. Usually 3 sessions of each sport per week which includes a long ride and an additional run off the bike on Saturday and a long run on Sunday.

➡️What are your current PB’s?
21.1km - 1:23:30
70.3 - 4:27:05
IM - Pending...

➡️What is your proudest triathlon achievement to date?
Breaking 4:30 at Busso 70.3 & qualifying for World Champs. A 46min PB from the prior year which far exceeded my original goal of sub 4:50. Never thought I’d be planning a worlds trip so soon.

➡️How long have you been with Front Runner & who is your Front Runner coach?
About 1 year now following the legendary coaching of Derek Cross

➡️What have you valued most about being a athlete?
The community of strong athletes who a very like-minded and willing to share their experiences to help each other achieve their goals.

➡️Favourite training buddies?
The Tri group are fantastic but a shoutout to my Busso training crew who’ve been there most of the way. Tadhg, James, Tanika & Lachie!

➡️What are your short (next 12 months) and long-term goals in triathlon?
Short term: Break 4:20 in the 70.3 & be competitive at Worlds
Long term: Sub 9hr IM 😶

➡️If you could give one piece of advice about triathlon what would it be?
Consistency. Effort doesn’t mean much if it’s not consistent.
