SURGERY UPDATE
I was so excited about Hailey being out of garments and walking into the hospital for the first time since her accident that I forgot to share her other exciting piece of news 🙈
After 8 rounds of laser (making it 15 surgeries) the doctors have decided no more surgeries for the rest of the year 🎉
She usually has a round of laser every 8-10 weeks so this will be her biggest break from surgeries in 2 years ♥️
They want to give her skin a break and then will reassess her at the end of the year and decide then if she will need a couple more or stop for good.
She will need a couple cosmetic surgeries to her hair line and ear but they will be done when she's older (end of primary/beginning of highschool).
I have attached photos to show how her face looked at the beginning of her laser surgeries and how it looks now. It's come so far ♥️

Just thought I would share this moment I caught this morning before leaving for school.
When Hailey had her accident and was discharged from hospital she really didn't like her younger sister. She would have a meltdown any time she looked at her, she walked into the same room etc. It got to the point we had to start emotional regulation therapy with her. And now she happily shows her little sister affection. Just another way Hailey has continued to progress in the last 2 years ♥️

2 years ago today was our little Hailey's accident. Rather than look back today with sadness, I've made this video of Hailey with all her progress from the last year.
Some highlights include:
* Being approved for her walking frame & wheelchair
*Starting (and loving) Hippotherapy with Lily & RDA Oakford
* Celebrating her 4th birthday
* Meeting Perth Firefighters Calendar
* Meeting Emma Watkins
* Seeing The Wiggles
* Returning to daycare
* Starting (and loving) Kindy
* Making friends & attending birthday parties
* No longer needing to wear her top compression garment (still requires head garments & pants tho)
* Still having surgeries but being a big brave girl about them and less tears
* Hair has grown back long enough to braid and tie up
* Lots of smiles and giggles
* Can stand independently
* Can take steps independently (record is 47 in a row)
* More talking and words
* Went to Disney On Ice with little to no meltdowns
* Loves counting
* Trying to learn to Jump
* Only requires her wheelchair for long distances now
* Can walk to daycare using only her walking frame
* No longer requires to use her walking frame inside (e.g home, class room etc)

Nice, quick & easy day today. Hailey's surgery was a morning one and shorter than usual (because they have less areas requiring laser).

We're already discharged and on our way home. She's still a little groggy and tired so will most likely nap the rest of the day away before her siblings come home from school and annoy her 😅

Surgery finished 🎉
This was her 7th round of laser making it now her 14th surgery since her accident.
This round was probably one of her easiest. She didn't receive steroid injections in her cheek so I believe it's made her recovery easier. She usually wakes up in a lot more pain on the days she gets those. She's also understanding and becoming more familiar with the process. She knows when to hold her hand out for the blood pressure checks etc. On one hand it's good because it means less tears and upsets. On the other hand it's sad that she's had to go through this so many times to become familiar with it. But as always she does it with a smile on her face ❤️
She's now snoozing in the car on the way home and will likely spend the rest of the night sleeping it off ❤️

Last night I (Hailey's Mum) accidentally gave myself a second degree burn while cooking dinner. Thankfully we had spare supplies from PCH burn ward from when Hailey was admitted to properly dress and look after it.

My burn is only tiny. It hurts. Even now hours later. For hours it felt like my nerves in my finger were on fire. The pain radiated up my whole arm. And I can guarantee my burn doesn't even register as 1% of my body. Me, a grown woman of 35, cried for hours because it hurt so bad.

Then I remembered my baby Hailey. Only 2 at the time with 2nd & 3rd degree burns to 35% of her body. And I cried for hours for a completely different reason 😭

I'm forever proud of your strength Hailey and how far you've come. Of your determination to keep improving & healing despite all the obstacles you've had to overcome. And to do it all with a smile on your face, my beautiful girl ♥️
