I’m Emma Kendrick, Jane McGrath was my mother’s cousin and a big inspiration for me as she is the person who inspired me to travel, just as she did.I don’t think I would have had the guts to move to Australia if it wasn’t for the fact that that is exactly what aunty Jane did and I am so happy to be able to experience the country that she settled down in, I just wish she was still here so that I could experience it with her, but as I am here now my main goal is to raise money for the McGrath foundation in her memory and keep her legacy going. The McGrath Foundation was co-founded by Jane and Glenn McGrath after Jane's diagnosis and initial recovery from breast cancer. One of the McGrath Foundations main objectives is to raise money to fund McGrath Breast Care Nurses across Australia as Jane felt strongly that every woman diagnosed with breast cancer in Australia should be able to benefit from the support of a specialist breast care nurse, as she did. The second objective is to increase breast awareness in young women. Jane was only 31 when she was first diagnosed with breast cancer and she felt passionate about empowering women under 40 to take control of their health by conducting regular breast checks.
The main reason I am doing this is to raise money for the McGrath foundation in loving memory of my aunty Jane but also to raise breast cancer awareness in young women. I want Jane's message to carry on spreading and hopefully young women will take control of their health and conduct regular breast checks. The tree will also share messages of love, hope and honour, to buy a rose is to honour a friend, family member or anyone who has been affected by breast cancer. We will be selling artificial pink roses which we will tie to the tree, if you would like to add a message this will be at no extra cost, and we will take photographs and keep the site updated with all of the pictures of our growing 'Pink Rose Tree'.
