This National Volunteer Week, we celebrate Trish Thompson and her remarkable journey with the Royal Flying Doctor Service, a connection that has spanned over half her life.

From her first role with the RFDS in Broken Hill, NSW, to working across operations, service support and fundraising, Trish has a remarkable connection to our service. She is now a volunteer at Jandakot in WA and a life member of the RFDS, which is one of her proudest moments to date.

Thank you, Trish, for your compassion, commitment, and extraordinary contribution.

When eight-month-old Teddy became unwell in the Wheatbelt, Chelsea and Kingsley were told that Teddy would need to be flown to Perth Children’s Hospital, over 200 kilometres away.

“Dr Roy came off the plane and Teddy just put his arms out to him and it was like he knew that help had arrived,” Chelsea said.
“Dr Roy grabbed Teddy and walked him to the plane and Ted just looked so comfortable, safe and relaxed.”

Today, on International Day of the Midwife, we recognise the incredible role midwives play in caring for women, babies and families - no matter where they live 💙❤️

This year’s theme, “One Million More Midwives,” highlights the urgent need to grow and support the midwifery workforce around the world.

We’re proud to be doing our part, with five nurses currently on our Midwifery Scholarship pathway, helping to grow the future of midwifery care in regional and remote WA.

Thank you to all midwives for the vital care you deliver to communities across WA every single day.
