❤️ Thanks to generous funding from Telethon7 Perth, Woodside Energy and the Western Australian community, critically ill newborns across WA will benefit from safer, faster and more standardised aeromedical transfers, with new neonatal equipment to be purchased and available at all RFDS WA bases.

The funding will allow us to purchase innovative Stryker stretchers and Cherub neonatal equipment. This standardised equipment also aligns with St John WA's equipment to improving continuity of care across health services.

This is the seventh year the RFDS in WA has received critical funding from Telethon. Funding provided in 2024 supported neonatal transfers through the RFDS Fortescue Heli-Med Service, resulting in 35 neonatal retrievals in 2025. Around 200 total neonatal transfers are conducted by the RFDS in WA across all aircraft types each year 💙

Celebrating Anne Lewis – 100 Years Young! 🎉

This week, we had the honour of celebrating Anne Lewis’ 100th birthday! Anne was WA’s first female commercial pilot and the first female pilot for the RFDS, a true trailblazer for women in aviation. When asked about her achievements, Anne said:
"What I did turned out to be a bit special and I rather enjoy being a bit special every now and then." ✨

Our RFDS team joined Anne to celebrate her incredible achievements and milestone birthday. She even enjoyed a ride in the RFDS Fortescue Heli-Med Service, thanks to Rotary Pilot Elaine Cadzow.

From the RFDS to the Royal Air Force and a global aviation career, Anne’s life is a testament to courage, passion, and inspiration. It was a privilege to pay tribute to such an iconic woman with 100 years of experience to inspire us all. ❤️💙

Today we reached a major milestone, caring for our 900th rotary patient 🚁

The RFDS Fortescue Heli-Med Service EC145 helicopters are a vital part of our WA operations. They support hospital-to-hospital transfers and add real versatility, landing on rooftop helipads at Royal Perth, Fiona Stanley, and Perth Children’s Hospital. This reduces ambulance travel times and gives our frontline crews greater capacity to respond to patient needs.

“It’s never just a flight - it’s a collective effort that stretches across the sky, the state, and the community.”

Across WA, our aircraft land at more than 800 remote locations - many without sealed runways, lights or road access for hundreds of kilometres ✈️🚁

Behind every landing site is a person, a family and a community relying on us. Behind every retrieval is an extraordinary level of careful coordination by the RFDS Regional Operations Centre at Jandakot that receives more than 650 calls every day.

From Victoria to WA, and straight into our hearts ✈️

This week we welcomed the Popple family to our Jandakot base. After selling their home and travelling Australia for 18 months, sisters Madeline and Amelia are raising funds for the RFDS WA by selling handmade jewellery in caravan parks along the way.

They’ve already raised $1,500 - with more creations still to come. Thank you, Maddy and Amelia, for your generosity and kindness 💙❤️
