Something really special happened last Friday. Reid was asked to run a discussion about autism and ADHD, with a group of 42, year 4 students at Christ the King School.

What a positive experience! The students were so open, engaged and asking so many questions. We discussed the challenges and the positives of both diagnoses and discussed how we could help people when they are feeling overwhelmed instead of judging and bullying.

Some comments from the students after were...
🤔“I didn’t know people with autism thought just like us”
👂🏼“So when my ears hurt from a [screaching] noise, that’s just how my brain works?”

We completed a whole class “my skills circle” and they were all so intrigued, seeing their strengths, challenges and how they were all so different in how they perceive the world.

It was such a humbling experience and I hope we can advocate for more of our clients this way. The more kids know and understand, the more accepting and supportive they can be to their peers with difficulties and disabilities.

Happy birthday to our big boss man Reid!! 🥳We appreciate you and the work environment you have created for our team 🥰

Why body socks? 🤔

Body Socks are ideal for individuals with autism, sensory processing disorders and anxiety. They are proving to be a great source for regulation in the home, school or therapy clinic, providing deep pressure proprioceptive input through joint compressions and resistive muscle activation.

Our Body Socks are manufactured in Australia from a breathable lycra which feels soft and comfortable with no harsh velcro. The coloured band around the opening makes it easier to see for that individual that needs an escape plan. Body Socks are the perfect calming, sensory escape tool to help the individual focus and feel safe. Body Socks can be used whilst reading books, watching TV or can be used to burn off energy or have fun moving around in it.

Body Socks are suitable for home, specialist clinics or school based sensory programs. Body Socks are light weight making them ideal to take on family holidays.

Adult supervision recommended.

We now have 4 sizes for you to try on. All body socks are pre-ordered, so that you can select your ideal colour.

PENCIL GRIPS NOW AVAILABLE!! 🤩✏️

Pencil grips are temporary attachments that fit onto a pencil. They help children and adults have a functional and accurate grasp of a pencil or pen. Used correctly, a grip can help develop fine motor skills and control over handwriting.

We have a range of 7 different types of pencil grips available to purchase at our office.
Please consult with your OT to know which grip is the best for you.

A big thank you to for coming in and running a workshop with us.

Saya Therapy, in conjunction with parents of children in the Peel area who are ASD and ADHD, are hosting a series of low sensory painting workshops in central Mandurah.

Storytelling and creativity play significant roles in the development for many children and young adults and we have created a welcoming and safe space where individuals can express themselves through painting as well as learn about interacting effectively in group environments with their peers.

Workshops are lead by Alexander Haass, an award winning miniatures painter, modelling creator and former block master with Lego UK.

To all our parents, friends etc, a great watch if you can spare the time. Having an "I can network", and valuing a different orbit, can make the biggest impact on our kiddos. It's also the backbone of our community icon. The video also highlights the strength and persistence of our parents. Please remember to join our parents page to connect with other parents in our community, search "rcot parents" on Facebook.

Why RCOT?

I have been a paediatric occupational therapist since 2013, starting my career in a sensory integration based clinic, moving into full-time therapeutic caring for children in care of the Department of Child Protection, and the last couple of years, I have worked more specifically with people with autism (mainly with children), in a community based setting.

I enjoy working with clients, families and schools to ensure the best possible outcomes for therapy. Providing the necessary skills and support for key contacts in a child’s life, will ensure that therapy goals can continue to be addressed outside of therapy hours, and significantly strengthen the outcomes a child experiences.

Prior to occupational therapy, I was an accredited exercise physiologist. This experience continues to support my knowledge in motor movements, exercise and gross motor interventions, and how these interventions assist in development and maturity.
