I have created an online Aquaponics course designed for busy Aussie Dads. Take a look at the overview and if it sounds like something you might be interested in then let me know. Once all the slots have been filled I will open up the course.
It's an 8 week in depth course as outlined below.

Welcome to "Aquaponics for Aussie Dads." This course has been carefully designed to empower Australian fathers with the knowledge and skills needed to create and maintain their own aquaponics systems while successfully balancing the demands of family life and the pursuit of sustainability.

In this introductory module, we will embark on a journey to explore the fascinating world of aquaponics, understand its profound benefits, and delve into the environmental and financial advantages it offers. Whether you're an experienced gardener or a complete novice, this course will provide you with the essential tools and insights to create a thriving aquaponics system that harmonizes with your role as a busy Aussie dad.

Aquaponics is a sustainable and efficient method of growing both fish and plants in a mutually beneficial ecosystem. It merges aquaculture (fish farming) and hydroponics (soilless plant cultivation) to create a closed-loop system, where fish waste is converted into valuable nutrients for plants, while the plants, in turn, filter and purify the water for the fish. This elegant synergy allows for the growth of delicious, fresh produce alongside the sustainable cultivation of fish, all within a compact and manageable space – perfect for those with busy family lives.

Throughout this course, you will learn the intricacies of aquaponics, from system design to plant health, and from system maintenance to family involvement. Our goal is to help you not only set up a successful aquaponics system but also embrace it as an opportunity to bond with your loved ones, educate your children, and enhance the sustainability of your lifestyle.

Aquaponics presents an exciting and eco-friendly approach to food production, water conservation, and family engagement. By the end of this course, you will be equipped with the knowledge and practical skills to embark on your own aquaponics journey, tailored to your family's unique needs and circumstances. So, let's begin this adventure and discover how aquaponics can enrich your life as a busy Aussie dad.

Have you been looking to add some beautiful Hens to your flock and having trouble finding them? Or want to get your first chickens and need family friendly varieties?

Well look no further, The Little Suburban Homestead in Kelmscott have a great selection of reputable, pure bred, heritage breed, child friendly, colourful egg laying varieties ready for you. (Some are even show winning lines).

They will grow so quickly and will be friendly and tame as you will be handling them from a young age. The kids love this stage.

Chicks are so easy to care for and are great for kids to learn from and have fun with. All you need is a 100 watt heat lamp, fresh water and chick starter feed. I'm happy to help you with any info and questions you may have to help you with your new babies.

At the moment we have monthly hatchings of unsexed day old chicks available, with more breeds to come.

We are always happy to take orders. You could have one of every breed, and have an instant gorgeous flock, without the searching and driving around everywhere.

All of our breeds are great layers (not so much the Silkie Bantams) and being heritage breeds they lay much longer than your plain Isa browns. These are such beautiful docile birds and are great for Kids.

Varieties available:
Ameraucana. (Blue eggs[possible tolbunt])
Blue Australorp. (Show lines)
Barnevelder. (Chocolate eggs)
New Hampshire (non broody line)
Silkie Bantam. (What's not to love)
Palomino New Hampshire.
Minorca. (Black & blue show lines)

Here’s exactly how I designed my DIY Bio Filter for our aquaponics system. This is a small biological filter to help convert ammonia from the fish tanks into nitrates before our Deep Water Culture bed. Nitrates is the fertiliser that plants use and gives incredible growth.

I’ve had a lot of people ask me how I aerate my fish tanks without an air pump and air stones. Here’s how. I have 6 of these jets forcing water and air around 50cm deep into each tank. They’re also at an angle so that the water is continuously circulating.
