On Sunday 14th December, a fire ripped through the property of Saum and Sultan, Directors of Rafiki-supported school, PEC Pre and Primary School.

A fire was lit across the road and wind swept embers onto the assembly hall, which was quickly engulfed, along with their own home, and other buildings.

Thankfully no one was injured and much of the school classrooms and boarding house were untouched, but they did lose the assembly hall, kitchen and an office, with all of their most valuable electronic equipment including their laptop, printers and photocopier as well as some computers. Saum and Sultan also lost their own home and all their belongings.

PEC Pre & Primary School provides education for 400 children, including many boarders and 40 underprivileged students supported on scholarship by Rafiki. The school consistently ranks in the top performing primary schools in the whole of Tanzania.

We have set up a fund to help contribute to the school facilities lost, and to assist Saum and Sultan get back ont heir feet so they can continue to provide a safe and welcoming school to its beautiful students.

*** PEC School Fire Appeal ***

Illham, Yusra, Fatma, Warda and Aneth are children who have faced incredibly hard beginnings, orphaned or coming from disadvantaged backgrounds. The Rafiki family has been honoured to sponsor them to board at PEC Primary School in Kilwa.

Here they are, confidently sharing their thoughts about the Rafiki wa Binti period un**es. PEC School and its dedicated staff played a crucial role in helping us test and refine this project.

Their English, their poise, and their growing confidence are a testament to what nurturing, opportunity, and education can do. We are so proud of them. 🩷

Rafiki Director Carol met with Angelia at yesterday.

Angelina requires yearly surgery for her burns as her body grows. Thanks to the generous support of Karen Mitchell, Angelina will have her next surgery today.
