Training is a major focus for Rafiki.

In addition to transferring skills through hands-on participation in surgeries, a few years back we partnered with Tanzania’s national referral hospital MUHIMBILI and their medical university, MUHAS, to deliver a Master’s Degree in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery ,the first of its kind in Tanzania.

Pictured with our Rafiki Director Julia and Project Volunteer Emma is Dr. Dorah Mtaita, the first female trainee in Plastic Surgery at Muhimbili National Hospital and a recipient of the Rafiki Scholarship. She has also received a set of illuminating magnification loupes donated through Rafiki Australia, a vital piece of personal equipment for reconstructive surgeons.
