💙 World Diabetes Day – Movement is Medicine 💙

Did you know that regular movement is one of the most powerful tools for preventing and managing diabetes?

As physiotherapists, we often see how staying active helps people:

✅ Improve insulin sensitivity
✅ Maintain joint and muscle health
✅ Boost energy and mood
✅ Reduce risk of complications like neuropathy and balance problems

Even small changes can make a difference! A daily walk, strength training twice a week, or breaking up long sitting periods are a great place to start.

If pain, stiffness, or fatigue make moving harder, that’s where we can help.
We design safe, individualised exercise plans that fit your body, your health, and your goals.

This , let’s celebrate movement as medicine — one step at a time. 💪💙

🚴‍♀️ Let’s bust a common misconception about cycling and mental health for those managing pain! 🚴‍♂️

Myth #7: “Cycling won’t help with pain-related stress or mental health.” ❌
Truth: Cycling doesn’t just benefit your body, it can have a powerful positive effect on your mind too.

Regular cycling releases endorphins, the body’s natural mood boosters, which help reduce stress and anxiety. Staying active can also improve sleep quality and provide a sense of accomplishment, all of which support mental wellbeing.

Managing pain is about caring for your whole self, and cycling can be a great part of that journey. 🙌

✅ We’re here to support you in using cycling as part of a holistic plan to manage both pain and mental health.

🚴‍♀️ Myth-busting time, let’s clear up a common misconception about pain and cycling! 🚴‍♂️

Myth #6: “Pain means stop cycling.” ❌
Truth: Pain doesn’t always mean you need to stop moving.

While sharp or severe pain is a warning sign, some mild discomfort during activity can be normal as your body adapts and builds strength.

In fact, moving through manageable discomfort can be an important part of improving your movement and managing chronic pain over the long term.

The key is finding the right balance between activity and rest to keep cycling safely without causing harm. Listening to your body and adjusting as needed helps you stay active and make progress. 🙌

✅ We’re here to help you understand your pain signals and develop a plan to keep cycling comfortably and confidently.

🚴‍♂️ Think bike setup only matters for serious cyclists? Let’s bust that myth! 🚴‍♀️

Myth #5: “I don’t need to worry about my bike setup if I’m just cycling for fun.” ❌
Truth: Proper bike fit and posture are essential for everyone who rides, whether you’re a casual cyclist or a daily commuter.

A poorly fitted bike can lead to discomfort, pain, and even injury, especially if you have chronic pain or existing conditions. Simple adjustments to seat height, handlebar position and pedal alignment can make a huge difference in how comfortable and safe your ride feels.

Taking time to get your bike set up correctly helps reduce strain on your joints and muscles, improves your cycling efficiency, and makes riding more enjoyable. 🙌

✅ Not sure if your bike fits you right? Check out the Bike Check and Coffee events being held by City of Joondalup every Wednesday this Bike Month!

🚴‍♂️ Let’s tackle another cycling myth — this one’s all about e-bikes! 🚴‍♀️

Myth #4: “E-bikes are cheating.” ❌
Truth: E-bikes aren’t cheating, they’re enabling.
E-bikes use a small motor to provide pedal assistance, which means you still pedal but with support when you need it to manage fatigue or pain. They’re especially helpful for people with limited mobility or fitness, making cycling more accessible and sustainable. 🙌

And here’s the kicker: research shows that riding an e-bike still provides meaningful physical activity, improves cardiovascular health, and supports mental wellbeing, just like traditional cycling.

✅ Whether you’re using an e-bike or riding at your own pace, movement matters. We’re here to help you stay active in a way that works for you.

🚴‍♂️ Ready to bust another cycling myth this Bike Month? Let’s go! 🚴‍♀️

Myth #3: “You have to be fit to start cycling.” ❌
Truth: You don’t need to be fit to begin cycling! In fact, cycling is one of the most accessible ways to gently build fitness and manage pain, even if you’ve been inactive for a while.
Research shows that regular, low-impact exercise like cycling can improve cardiovascular health, support joint mobility, and reduce pain intensity over time, especially when combined with a gradual, consistent approach.
Starting slow and pacing yourself can boost your physical and mental wellbeing without putting extra strain on your body. 🙌

✅ No matter your current fitness level, there’s a safe way to get started and we’re here to help.

🚴‍♀️ Let’s clear up another Bike Month Myth! 🚴‍♂️

Myth #2: “If I have back pain, I shouldn’t ride a bike.” ❌
Truth: With the right setup and posture, cycling can actually support your back health, not harm it.
A properly fitted bike and mindful riding position can help you build core and leg strength, both essential for back stability. Many people with back discomfort find cycling to be a low-strain way to stay active and manage their pain. 🙌

✅ Not sure how to get started safely? The City of Joondalup’s Bike Check and Coffee events (every Wednesday this Bike Month) are a great place to begin!

🚴‍♀️ It’s Bike Month in WA and we’re busting myths! 🚴‍♂️

Myth #1: “Cycling will wear out my knees.” ❌
Truth: Cycling is actually gentle on your knees and one of the best low-impact exercises for joint health. Unlike high-impact activities, cycling reduces stress on your joints while still building strength and improving mobility.

It targets key muscle groups like your quads and glutes, which support and stabilise the knees. Regular, smooth pedalling can also help reduce stiffness and ease pain, especially in people with arthritis or chronic knee discomfort.

With the right bike setup and pacing, cycling can be a safe and sustainable part of managing pain and staying active. 🙌

✅ Concerned about knee pain? We can help you explore comfortable ways to keep moving.
