RECYCLING TUESDAY | A reminder that the Container for Change program has started in WA. Check out their website for eligible containers. I went to a drop off point in O'Connor recently. It was super easy and fun to do. Great to do with the kids. Remember to set up an account before you go! Regularly I receive an email from Frankie at Additive Free Kids and one landed in my mailbox yesterday that I felt compelled to share. The Food Standards Australian New Zealand (FSANZ) are seeking calls for submissions on using an existing additive E471 Mono and Di Glycerides on our fresh fruit and vegetables. Frankie has highlighted four issues with this:

➡️ It encourages long transport times instead of looking at localised distribution of food so that food can get to people faster.

➡️ this additive can't be washed off

➡️ this additive is exempt from labelling, you will not know it is on your fruit and veg

➡️ we don't know how this emulsifier has been derived, it is often derived from Palm oil, can be GMO or animal origin. In this particular submission, it has been confirmed it isn't GMO and isn't of animal origin. However, there is a lack of transparency. Approval of this additive as a glazing agent on our fruit and veg opens the door for GMO and Animal derived emulsifiers to be used also.

For the last few months I have been participating in the FluTracking (recommended to me by a friend). It is a survey that tracks influenza-like symptoms across Australia and New Zealand. I am part of a group of over 60,000 participants who track their symptoms each week. If you have 15 seconds each week to complete the survey I would encourage you to join. For me, data informs good decision making, take a look at the information that has been collated. Take care everyone especially those in lockdown in Victoria. We are thinking of you.

LIGHT UP THE DAWN this ANZAC Day. At 6am, stand at the end of your driveway, on your balcony or in your living room, together even while apart, we'll remember them.

We honour the fallen and commemorate the thousands of Australian and New Zealanders who made the ultimate sacrifice in service of their country. We also pause to honour those men and women who continue to serve our country during conflict and crisis.
