💧 Flood ADVICE - AVOID THE AREA - DE GREY CATCHMENT including MARBLE BAR and NULLAGINE 💧

Date of issue: 02:37 PM, 19 Feb 2025.

Please note change to Flood Advice - Avoid the area for DE GREY CATCHMENT including MARBLE BAR and NULLAGINE and new WHAT TO DO messages. See changes throughout. Protect yourself against mosquito borne diseases. Refer to WA Health Website for information regarding the Flaviviris and other mosquito borne diseases. Heavy rainfall associated with Ex Tropical Cyclone Zelia is resulting in river rises across the De Grey River catchment. River levels are now slowly easing however roads in the warning area may become impassable and communities could be isolated.

⚠ The immediate danger has passed but you should continue to avoid the area as other hazards remain.

❗ WHAT TO DO ❗

- Never walk, swim or play in floodwaters as they are dangerous.
- If you left the area, do not return until you are told by emergency services that it is safe to go home.
- If you stayed in the impacted area:
- Be careful and avoid fallen powerlines or trees, broken water and sewerage lines, loose roof sheeting and other materials.
- Do not turn on power or gas equipment until they have been professionally tested. If water went above power points have the house checked by an electrician before turning the power back on.
- Use a torch when entering a building, never use matches or cigarette lighters as they could start a fire if there is a gas leak.
- To protect you from debris and mosquito-borne risks, wear long sleeved clothing and closed-in shoes like sneakers or boots.
- Do not park or camp adjacent to rivers.
- Follow directions from emergency services personnel.

If driving:
- Roads and bridges may have been damaged so exercise caution when driving in the area.
- Obey road closure signs and do not drive into water of unknown depth and current.
- Take care on gravel and unsealed roads as they may be slippery and muddy, and you could get bogged.

WHAT TO DO

You need to identify a room in your home where you can shelter from the approaching fire. It should have running water, such as a kitchen or laundry, and have a clear exit so you can easily escape.
You must shelter before the fire arrives, as the extreme heat will kill you before the flames reach you.
Close all doors and windows and turn off evaporative air conditioners but keep water running through the system if possible.
Monitor both inside and outside of your home for fires and embers and turn on sprinklers if you have them.
If your home catches fire and the conditions inside become unbearable, go to an area that has already been burnt.
Protect yourself by wearing strong leather boots in case you need to leave your home.
If you are in immediate danger, call Triple Zero (000).

What firefighters are doing

Firefighters are actively fighting the fire.
Firefighters are also undertaking a combination of tracking, backburning and burning out unburnt areas within containment lines to contain the fire.
This work will continue over the coming days.
There are approximately 306 firefighters and incident control staff from Parks and Wildlife Service, DFES and local bushfire brigades working across the fire ground and supporting the incident.
Aerial support (including Large Air Tanker) is assisting ground crews in suppressing hop overs and protecting infrastructure and property.

Drones and aerial support

Never fly a drone, model aircraft or multirotor near bushfires. Doing so poses a major safety risk to firefighting personnel in the air and on the ground, and forces aircraft to be grounded or redirected, hindering firefighting efforts.

Animal Welfare

Owners or carers of livestock, pets and companion animals should activate their own animal welfare plan. During a bushfire take advice from Local Government Authorities to protect the lives of your animals while keeping yourself safe.

For more information on actions to take for each bushfire warning level, please see the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development website.

Extra information

Parks and Wildlife Service is managing the fire.
The cause of the incident is lightning.
Approximately 21,867 hectares has currently been burnt.
