💛 A Message to Our Parkinson’s Caregivers
Caring for yourself isn’t indulgent — it’s essential. When you prioritise your own wellbeing, you can care for your loved one even better.
✨ Rest and support: Lean on family and friends, and let others help with cooking, errands, or sitting with your loved one.
🌿 Moments of joy: Read, walk, listen to music, meet a friend, or simply rest — small moments can be deeply restorative.
🧠 Protect your mental health: Talk to someone you trust, a counsellor, or a support worker if you’re feeling overwhelmed.
⏳ Explore respite guilt-free: Take a few hours, a weekend, or a planned break — your well-being matters too.
✔️ Set realistic expectations: It’s okay if not everything is perfect — connection, comfort, and care are what truly count.

🎄 Self-Care Over Christmas: A Guide for People Living With Parkinson’s
The festive season can be joyful — but it can also be tiring. This year, give yourself permission to slow down and focus on what supports your wellbeing.
✨ Create space for rest: Plan quiet breaks and let loved ones know you may need time to reset.
☀️ Stay cool and hydrated: Choose cooler activities, use shade or air-con, and drink plenty of water.
🕊️ Pace yourself: Spread out tasks and skip the non-essentials.
🥗 Eat well and keep moving: Opt for simple meals, eat mindfully, and fit in light movement where you can.
💊 Manage medication: Stay consistent, ensure you have enough, and check storage needs in the heat.
🔄 Stay flexible: Symptoms can shift — backup plans (and saying “no”) can help prevent burnout.

Parkinson’s WA is proud to announce two major leadership appointments that underscore the organisation’s growing influence in neurological and aged-care innovation across Australia.
The Australasian Neurosciences Nurses Association (ANNA) has announced the appointment of Sheree Ambrosini as General Director, ANNA Board as well as Chairperson of the Movement Disorder Chapter (MDC). These roles place Sheree at the forefront of national clinical leadership in movement disorder care.
In a significant appointment beyond the Parkinson’s field, Adj Prof Yasmin Naglazas has been named Chair of the Care Committee of the Board at Brightwater.
These appointments highlight the increasing impact Parkinson’s WA is having across the broader health landscape. They reflect not only the expertise of Yasmin and Sheree, but also the organisation’s work in clinical excellence, sector collaboration, research, and community leadership.
Parkinson’s WA congratulates both leaders as they bring their knowledge, passion, and strategic insight to influential roles that will help shape the future of neurological and aged care in Australia.
