PANDEMIC: Five years on (yes five years!!!) and we’re still feeling the effects of those disruptive months at the beginning of the pandemic. Was great to be invited on Channel Nine Today Extra this morning to discuss the physical and psychological consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, and what opportunities emerged from the adversity.

MIDLIFE: The pop culture cliche of the ‘midlife crisis’ is not particularly accurate. You might typically think of midlife crisis behaviours as buying a shiny new car and running off with a younger lover, but in reality, it’s probably more likely to involve feelings of stress, confusion, irritability and burnout.

Was great to chat to Claire Burke about the warning signs of a midlife crisis – and what to do for her recent article in Body + Soul.

The midlife crisis has had a modern makeover. Experts say it’s no longer defined by flashy cars or questionable tattoos, but shows up as burnout, fatigue and even self-destructive behaviour.

COMFORT ZONE: Many of us are creatures of habit and fall into predictable routines. But giving something new a go can have major health and wellbeing benefits. Learning a new language, musical instrument, or skill, for example, can create new neural pathways and strengthen existing ones.

Nice to chat about the benefits of getting of your comfort zone in this new article for The Australian Women’s Weekly.

Many of us fall into predictable routines, but stepping outside our comfort zone can have major health and well-being benefits.

GASLIGHTING: It is a term that gets thrown around a lot, but do you really know what it means? More importantly, would you be able to tell if someone was gaslighting you?

Nice to chat in this new article for Australian Women’s Weekly magazine which also outlines some useful strategies of how to deal with gaslighting if you’re on the receiving end of it.

From in relationships and friendships to at work and the doctor’s office, here’s how to spot gaslighting signs.

NOSTALGIA: Do these photos get you all nostalgic?

Nostalgia’s role is to give us a taste of sentimentality, we get to feel the emotions we had in a particular moment.

We all get nostalgic from time to time, but maybe we should be doing it more often. I often spend time talking to my about their past, asking them what they were like when they were younger, what their homes were like, what they spent their time doing and what their interests were decades ago, long before they sat in my office. Nostalgia can reinforce our sense of identity by reminding us of our personal history and experiences as we reflect on what we used to do that make us feel happy, before we become adults and started doing what society seemed to expect of us. There can be many clues to who we are peppered throughout our memories that can be helpful to us in the present.

I just couldn’t help but get all nostalgic in my new book ‘Crisis to Contentment - The Getting of Wisdom, Mid-Life’.

Do you relish in nostalgia, when life gets a bit challenging? And did your cassette collection look a little like mine?

PRESENTING: One of the perks of being a presenter who writes books is that I can tie my presentations directly to the books I’ve written — and another bonus? Attendees get to take home a copy to reinforce what they’ve listened to!

When I’m not writing, I’m busy creating and delivering learning experiences. I absolutely love speaking at workplaces and industry events, sharing tools and strategies that people often don’t even know they need, until they hear them.

I’m taking bookings now for this year, so shoot me a message if you’d like a copy of my Speakers Kit for 2025.

My Story

I am a Psychologist, Personal Development Coach, Keynote Speaker and Media Commentator. I hold a Bachelor Degree in Psychology as well as a Doctor of Psychology degree, with Health & Community specialities. As a result of working in the industry for over 20 years, I have found that stress and an anxious mindset underpin the majority of issues, as well as stop people reaching their full potential.

The challenges that many people face are that they lack the knowledge, the mindset and the lifestyle balance that one needs to live a healthy, satisfying & fulfilling life and resilient to stress. To solve these problems I offer corporate consulting / workshops and personal coaching packages to clients as well as present at workplace events. I speak on a wide range of topics and currently have THE THRIVING PROFESSIONAL packages available for organisations. I am also available as a Keynote Speaker for special events. I am passionate about prevention and increase people's capacity to live life in the most psychologically and physically healthy way possible.

I provide media commentary on a variety of mental health topics on TV, radio and in print. I am a columnist and am the Resident Psychologist for Channel Nine Live in Perth.
