๐จ๐๏ธ ART GALLERIES & MUSEUMS: Are you curious about art galleries and museums? Would you like to visit but donโt know how? A gallery/museum visit can be great for your mental wellbeing and a lovely way to spend time with family and friends. Below are some useful tips:
๐๏ธHow do you get started: To plan a visit, go to the gallery/museum website for opening times, news, events, exhibition details or to book a tour, talk or art class (see last dot point for some gallery/museum names). You could also check your local paper for whatโs on in your area, follow galleries/museums on social media or join a gallery/museum mailing list.
๐๏ธWhat to do when you get there: Have fun ๐ Look for things that interest you. Maybe have a coffee or lunch at the gallery cafe.
๐๏ธThings to note: The staff are there to help you, so feel free to ask questions if you arenโt sure about something. Most art galleries and museums have free entry, but for some special exhibitions you may have to buy a ticket. You may be asked to check in big bags/backpacks. Most galleries/museums do not allow food and drinks near artworks.
๐๏ธAs a starting point, GAGMH staff have visited and recommend: WA Museum Boola Bardip (Perth), Fremantle Arts Centre, NGVโs Yayoi Kusama exhibition (Melbourne, on until 21 April 2025), AGSAโs Radical Textiles exhibition (Adelaide, on until 30 March 2025), WA Maritime Museum (Fremantle), Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts, Geraldton Regional Art Gallery, Mona (Hobart).
REMEMBER: You donโt have to be good at art for the arts to be good for you. Do the art that makes YOU feel GOOD. TRY for two hours per week. It could make a difference to your mental health. Good Arts, Good Mental Health.
