Shoulder multi-directional instability is characterised by symptomatic excessive laxity of your shoulder in more than one direction. It commonly occurs in people with congenitive laxity who have minor injuries to the shoulder OR in athletic populations who do not have genetic laxity but do have repetitive overhead demands of their sport which has caused repetitive micro trauma. Physiotherapy led rehabilitation programs should focus on exercises to assist stabilisation and strength in and around the shoulder joint in order to safely return you to your every day lifestyle and chosen sports.

If you are experiencing shoulder instability, get in touch with your fX Physiotherapist to assist in creation of a rehabilitation program to keep you moving pain free.

Pain on the inside of your elbow (medial side) is often known as golfer’s elbow. Technically, it's known as either a medial epicondylitis. The “golfer’s elbow” name is kind of irrelevant if you ask us, as you don't need to be a golfer to get this. "Golfer’s” elbow can happen to anyone and it can make simple activities such as opening a jar, shaking hands or carrying a bag of groceries extremely painful and frustrating.

If it sounds like your symptoms align with what is in this post, be sure to book in with your fX Physiotherapist to help you be pain-free!

A big warm welcome to our newest addition to our Physio team… Kelsey 🤗🌻

Kelsey completed a Bachelor of Physiotherapy at the University of Notre Dame Australia (alongside her buddy and one of our current Physio’s, Fergus) where she then went on to pursue working within the government hospital sector for the better half of the last year. Some of you may recognise her face as having been a part of our reception team previously for 4.5 years, however now she is back under our wing as part of the Physio team 🤸🏼💪🏼

Kelsey has a keen interest in holistic practice, with a passion for the human body and movement ignited during her years as a dedicated waterpolo player. Through the challenges of injury and the pursuit of peak physical performance, she discovered her calling in physiotherapy. Believing firmly in the healing power of movement, Kelsey is committed to helping others achieve their goals, recover from injuries, and enhance their performance.

Outside of work, you can find Kels enjoying reformer pilates, walking her chocolate Labrador ‘Kev’ or enjoying trips away in the southwest. Kelsey’s booking system is now open and she is looking forward to catching up with familiar faces and meeting many new patients in coming weeks!

Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive treatment that stimulates the body’s natural healing process. It can relieve pain and promote healing of injured tendons, ligaments, and other soft tissues. It accomplishes this by releasing growth factors in the injured tissue. Are you interested in knowing more? 💥Let's talk Achilles tendinopathy 💥The Achilles tendon is prone to injury with repeated high loads, as seen with runners. In fact, runners have 30x more risk of injury to the Achilles than sedentary controls.

Achilles tendinopathies classically occur in the mid portion of the tendon. However, for some the tendinopathy arises where the tendon inserts onto the heel.

↪️ Swipe through for contributing factors & management strategies.

Gluteal tendinopathy is an overload of the tendons that attach the gluteal muscles into the outside of your upper leg. Welcome to our newest Physiotherapist... Fergus 🙌💫

Fergus completed a Bachelor of Science at the University of Western Australia and a Bachelor of Physiotherapy degree at the University of Notre Dame Australia where he graduated with honours researching Achilles Tendon pain.

He has worked as a sports trainer for rugby teams and as a physio assistant in the high acuity hospital setting. Through this experience Fergus developed an interest in load management and exercise to treat persistent pain.

Fergus likes to employ evidence-based practice and goal directed interventions. He utilises hands on therapy and exercise with a strong focus on increasing strength to help patients improve their quality of life and return to what they love doing.

Outside of work Fergus is a keen runner, loves golf and surfing, and spends his free weekends in the southwest.

💥Patellar Tendon💥📌 The patellar tendon is the continuation of the quadriceps tendon that is attached from the bottom of the kneecap (patella) to the bone bump (tibial tuberosity) just below the knee. It helps to increase the leverage and force that the quadriceps muscles can exert on the knee joint through its attachment to the patella

🤕 Injury to the tendon is called "Patellar Tendinopathy" and treatment includes exercise and activity modifications to either increase or decrease the overall load to the tendon, which may include direct loading exercises as well as addressing any biomechanical impairments (mobility, strength, or movement coordination deficits in neighbouring body regions) that may be contributing to patellar tendon overload

⁉️ The good news? The vast MAJORITY of people with patellar tendinopathy can return to their previous level of FUNCTION and/or SPORT after appropriate treatment 👌🏼

Shoulder Bursitis 💪🏼 🤕👀 Shoulder bursitis or sub-acromial bursitis is probably one of the most common shoulder complaints we see in clinic.

Often shoulder bursitis presents with tenderness within and around the shoulder, along with a constant ache and difficulty sleeping at night. It can also be partnered with loss of movement, loss of muscle strength, or if appropriate treatment is not sought, frozen shoulder.

🧠 Understanding the context and having a thorough assessment is key to identifying what is actually causing the pain so we can then address which factors are driving your pain and incorporate tailored rehabilitation not only to reduce your pain, but get you back to doing what you love 🙌
