Unlock the power of sunshine in a bottle! ☀️ Did you know that Vitamin D plays a crucial role in maintaining strong bones and a healthy immune system? Embrace the benefits of this essential nutrient and boost your vitality. Whether it’s through supplements or a little time in the sun, let’s prioritise our health together. Your body will thank you!
☀️ Feeling a little low on energy? Having gut issues it might just be your vitamin D levels!
Vitamin D as everyone knows is absorbed by the sun and certain foods contain Vitamin D such as sardines, egg yolks, avocados, mushrooms, fortified milks and oily fish and with covering up and sunscreens we are not receiving enough from the sun. With the many gut issues that people are having our bodies are just not absorbing vitamin D.
The many duties of Vitamin D is to repair the gut wall and support the microbiome, which potentially promotes the growth of beneficial bacterial and reduces harmful bacteria.
So if the gut and your microbiome work well this is the basis for all good health. You also need to make sure your bodies are receiving enough magnesium which helps with absorption. If you do not have enough magnesium you do not get good doses of Vitamin D.
Vitamin K is often combined with Vitamin D supplements because they work synergistically to benefit bone and cardiovascular health. Vitamin D helps absorb calcium, while Vitamin K ensures that calcium is deposited into bones rather than soft tissue.
As a naturopath I try and get everyone especially the elderly on Vitamin D though out winter and check the levels before summer hits.
Levels should be around 100 we call this the Hollywood amount. This keeps you nice and healthy and keeps bones strong and your gut and immune system working well.
I had a situation when covid hit in 2020 and I was moving house, I know a terrible time to move house but when the time is right you have to do it. So moving day I tripped down the steps and broke my ankle.
So I had a boot on and realised I was going to New York in 5 weeks and there would be lots of walking. I took Vitamin D and K every day and just before we were leaving I had my ankle X-rayed and it had healed in 5 weeks. I was very impressed with myself and didn’t have to take the boot and my ankle was fine.
Just shows the importance of Vitamin D and K and I do not have young bone’s but I do look after them with the right diet and exercise so can you it is never too late.
Great idea to get your Vitamin D levels checked out now.
