🦷 Friday crew 💙🐾

Fridays at Animal Dermatology Clinic look a little different - matching scrubs, dental days, and the whole team working together to keep tails wagging and teeth sparkling ✨

We’re lucky to have Dr Miike Lawley and the dental team joining us each Friday, bringing together dermatology, dentistry, anaesthesia, and nursing care all under one roof.

It takes a big team effort behind every procedure, and we love being able to work alongside people who care just as much about patient comfort and wellbeing as we do.

🌿 Before ➡️ After intradermal allergy testing 👀🐾

This reel shows the difference before and after intradermal allergy testing. During testing, tiny amounts of common allergens like pollens, moulds, and dust mites are injected into the skin. After a short wait, we assess for reactions by looking for raised swellings and redness at specific sites, just like the ones you can see appearing here.

These results help us create a personalised immunotherapy plan tailored to your pet’s individual allergy profile, with the goal of reducing itching, infections, and flare-ups long-term. 💉✨

Every allergy profile is different, which is why this testing can be such an important step in getting to the root of chronic skin and ear disease.

👂 Assessing hearing with BAER testing

At Animal Dermatology Clinic, we perform BAER (Brainstem Auditory Evoked Response) testing to help assess hearing in dogs and cats. It’s a safe, non-invasive test that allows us to diagnose hearing loss and evaluate how well the auditory pathway is functioning.

BAER testing can be especially useful for pets with chronic ear disease, suspected congenital deafness, or patients undergoing advanced ear procedures.

We also commonly perform BAER testing as part of our video-otoendoscopy procedures, particularly in pets with chronic ear infections, to help determine whether long-term ear disease has affected their hearing. This gives us valuable information when assessing the extent of disease and planning ongoing treatment and management.

And yes… it can also help confirm whether your dog truly has hearing loss or if they’ve simply perfected the art of selective hearing 😂🐶

Whether your pet has long-term ear issues or hearing concerns, BAER testing helps us build a clearer picture and provide the best possible care. 🐾

Starting the week with wagging tails, happy faces, and patients excited to see us is honestly the best kind of Monday motivation.

We know vet visits can sometimes feel stressful, which is why we always aim to make the clinic a calm, positive, and welcoming space for our patients with plenty of treats and cuddles along the way, of course ✨

Safe to say this gorgeous pup brightened everyone’s day the second they walked through the door 🥰

One of the three winners from our Murdoch Clinic Birthday Giveaway has officially received her goodie bag and we think the toy may have stolen the show 🥰🐶

Thank you to everyone who celebrated with us and shared part of your pet’s journey 💙

Watching our patients enjoy their prizes has been such a lovely way to wrap up the celebrations ✨

One of our sweet patients got a little extra comfortable during their immunotherapy induction day and decided Nurse Amy made the perfect pillow 🐶🥰

Immunotherapy induction days can be long, so we make sure our patients are closely monitored, relaxed, and as comfortable as possible throughout their stay with us.

The same goes for our bee and wasp Cluster RUSH days too, there are always plenty of cuddles available for our patients throughout the day. Although honestly… sometimes we think the team needs the cuddles even more 😂✨

🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛ What are the chances?!

We recently had two black cats in clinic at the exact same time for the exact same procedure - ear flushes! 👂✨

Ear flush procedures can play an important role in managing chronic ear disease by helping us thoroughly assess and clean the ear canal under anaesthesia.

These two little twins were absolute stars for their procedures and had the team completely confused on more than one occasion. 🖤

🥐 A slightly overdue World Veterinary Day celebration 🐾

Recently, our team took a little time out to celebrate World Veterinary Day together over breakfast. 💙

It was so nice catching up outside the clinic, seeing everyone out of scrubs for a change, and actually being able to recognise each other without all looking the same! 😄

Between busy consults, procedures, and caring for all of our wonderful patients, moments like these are a lovely reminder of the amazing team behind Animal Dermatology Clinic Perth.

We’re incredibly grateful for our vets, nurses, and support staff who work so hard every day to help pets feel more comfortable in their skin. 🐶🐱

After 13 incredible years with Animal Dermatology Clinic Perth, we’re saying a heartfelt farewell to our wonderful nurse, LJ 💙

LJ has been such an important part of our team over the years, bringing compassion, dedication, and warmth to both our patients and clients. She will be greatly missed by all of us.

We recently enjoyed a lovely dinner together to celebrate LJ and all her contributions - a small thank you for the huge impact she’s had on our clinic.

We wish you all the very best for your next chapter, LJ - you’ll always be part of the ADC family 🐾✨

Things We See Under the Microscope 🔬

Mixed infection: cocci, rods & neutrophils 🦠

Sometimes, it’s not just one type of organism causing trouble. In this sample, we can see both cocci (round bacteria) and rods (rod-shaped bacteria), along with neutrophils - inflammatory cells that tell us the body is actively fighting infection.

These mixed (multi-organism) infections are common in ear and skin disease, and can be more complex to manage than a single infection alone. They often require targeted diagnostics, such as culture and sensitivity testing, to ensure the right treatment is chosen. ❤️‍🩹

This is why cytology is such an important tool - it helps us see exactly what’s going on and guide the best care for your pet.
