This patient came in with classic signs of lip fold pyoderma - redness, moisture, trapped debris, and that unmistakable smell that just won’t go away, even with good dental care.
For dogs with deep lip folds, this is a common issue. Moisture and bacteria get trapped, creating irritated and uncomfortable skin.
🧼 What we did:
To properly assess and treat the area, we performed a lip fold clip and clean under general anaesthesia. This allows us to gently remove the thick hair, thoroughly cleanse the affected folds, and evaluate how severe the infection is.
📸 In the after photo, the skin may look a little “angry” - a clip and deep clean can leave the area temporarily reddened, but we always follow with soothing topical treatments to calm the skin and support healing over the next several days.
If the condition doesn’t improve with medical therapy alone, we can also refer patients for surgical correction to help reduce future infections.
If your dog’s lip folds are smelly, irritated, or difficult to keep clean, give us a call at 08 6277 9430 - we’re here to help keep those faces comfortable and healthy. 💙🐾
