This week is Women’s Health Week and the theme for this year is “Say Yes to You!”

As a clinic, we can provide women’s health advice and expertise, including pre-natal physiotherapy. Growing a little human is amazing but it could also bring new aches, pains, and changes to your body. If you’re wondering what you can do to help manage all of this, that’s where we can help!

Gym Gear For Sale!💪🏻🏋️

As our gym refit and renovation is now well under way, we are selling some of our used gear that is no longer needed. It is all in excellent condition and has been regularly serviced. Most of it has been either very lightly or never used in the clinic here and is currently fully assembled at Ed's place and his wife wants it GONE :)

What's included:
• Bodycraft Power Cage (LF403) plus built in Lat Pulldown (LF413G) and Cable Crossover (LF434)
• 100kg of Black rubber coated weights
• 2 x bars (165cm and 210cm lengths) •
• Armortech multifunction bench that includes knee extension and hamstring curl attachments and preacher curl setup

If you or someone you know is interested, MAKE US AN OFFER!

To give you an idea, the unit and the weights included is worth about $4500 new but we'd like to see it go to a nice home for much less than that (hint hint, we'll let it go for half price or thereabouts, wink wink)

Ed will help you disassemble it but putting it back together is your job entirely, It's actually pretty straight forward and we've done it several times.

Good Life with Arthritis in Denmark (GLA:D) is an evidence-based exercise and education program designed to help people manage osteoarthritis (OA) and improve their quality of life.

The GLA:D Program helps to reduce the pain of osteoarthritis by strengthening muscles around the joint, and improving function, making daily activities easier. The program also helps with education, teaching you more about OA and how exercise can be a key part of managing it.

GLA:D involves tailored exercise in a group setting, supervised by one of our physios with the exercises designed to improve your strength and mobility at your own pace.

There are many common causes of back pain but four of the main factors are poor posture, muscle strain, improper lifting and stress and tension.

Maintaining proper posture, stretching regularly, strengthening your core and using heat and cold therapies when required are ways that you can help to alleviate pain

Ergonomics at work are another way to adjust for back pain, especially if working a desk job. Adjusting the chair height (so feet are flat on the floor), setting monitor to eye level and taking regular breaks to stretch and move are just some of the ways you can minimise back pain.

To help prevent back pain, always bend your knees not your back and make sure you keep your load close to your body and avoid twisting. If pain persists, get in contact with us and we can book you in for an appointment with one of our physios!

The Achilles tendon is the largest and strongest tendon in the body. Achilles Tendinopathy is associated with overuse from repetitive loading and characterised by localised pain and stiffness in the area😥🦶🏻

Risk factors associated with achilles tendinopathy include overuse injuries, genetics, obesity, age (35-55), and previous spring failure (a strain of the gastrocnemius in the past).It’s more common in males than females.

Eccentric calf muscle training (ie lengthening the calf muscle) has been found to be the best treatment to decrease pain and decrease tendon thickening. Physio treatment can include massage and dry needling of the gastrocnemius and soleus (the muscles of the calf muscles) 💪🏻
Recovery for this type of achilles injury is typically 3-6 months.

Em has been missing from BCP's reception desk for a little while and there's a good reason! She's currently in Cambodia 🇰🇭 where she is halfway through a placement as part of her Masters of Clinical Exercise Physiology course. She's gone as part of a group of students from Curtin University and will spend time at the Physical Rehabilitation Center and Grace House both located in Siem Reap. Osteoporosis is a condition that weakens bones, making them fragile and more prone to fractures. It predominantly affects the bones in the spine, hips, and wrists.

People most at risk of osteoporosis include postmenopausal women, older adults, people with a family history, smokers, people with low levels of physical activity, and those with low calcium or vitamin D levels.

Physios can assist with the prescription of strengthening exercises to improve bone density, posture, and balance as well as providing advice regarding how you can reduce the risk of falls, and subsequent fractures.

Early intervention and consistent exercise can make a big difference in managing osteoporosis and improving quality of life. Weight-bearing activities such as walking, dancing or strength training can stimulate bone growth and enhance bone health.

The World Health Organisation recommends that adults should complete at least 150-300 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise OR at least 75-150 minutes of vigorous-intensity exercise per week.
