We overheard a conversation yesterday between a business mentoring group. One of the girls was a “digital expert”, let’s call her Girl A. She was trying to convince one of the other members in the group to start video blogs, let’s call her Girl B.
Girl B was not sure 🤔
Girl A went on and on about the benefits, the reach, the engagement etc. Girl B tried and tried to explain that videos were not her thing and that she would feel really uncomfortable filming herself, she suggested that a written blog might be better suited to her and also improve her business les marketing and engagement. Girl A was not impressed. Both ended the conversation without a resolution and a little shhh-ty at each other.
To all of the Girl B’s our there, be authentic with yourself and your market. Inauthenticity concerns potential customers, it does not attract them. If a self promoting video is authentic for you, then go for it. If it’s not, it’ll be painful for you and your viewers so don’t bother. Instead, write a blog about how you are less about self promotion and more about delivering a quality service 😂
To Girl A, there is not a one size fits all marketing and digital strategy for everyone. A good strategist will listen to their client and work with current trends, the needs of the market AND the clients brand to deliver an effective strategy.
