Tide Inside

I’m teaching my nerves to walk, not run,
to trade the sprint for the slow hum
of breath that rises, breath that falls.
The heartbeat learns to miss a beat
and find it again in the quiet.

There’s a rhythm under all the noise:
traffic, texts, the tight clench in my chest.
I soften a little at a time,
let the tide pull thought back out to sea.

Balance isn’t stillness.
It’s swaying with the ebbs,
rooted enough to bend,
loose enough not to break.

So I listen for the pulse in the evening wind in Perth,
until slowing down feels less like losing
and more like coming home.
