The Special Olympics local competitions are for children and adults with intellectual disabilities and autism, who wish to compete against other athletes in their chosen sport and qualify for Special Olympic state and national competitions.

Special Olympics WA – 2025 State Games DanceSport

When: Sunday, 28 September
Time: 12:00 to 3:00 pm
Where: Victoria Park Leisure Centre, Cnr Kent & Gloucester Streets, East Victoria Park
Cost: $25 + booking fee for competitors; spectators free

Dance styles include:
Ballroom
Street Dance
Performing Arts
Specialty

Each dancer is invited to perform:
One solo routine (1 minute 10 seconds to 1 minute 30 seconds)
One couple or duo routine (1 minute 10 seconds to 1 minute 30 seconds)
One team routine (1 minute 30 seconds to 1 minute 50 seconds)

Performances will be assessed on:
Musicality
Choreography ex*****on
Athleticism
Presentation

How to register:
To compete, athletes must register online via the link below by 5:00 PM, Sunday, 14 September 2025.

The Special Olympics WA State Games is a qualifying event for the Special Olympics Australia National Games. DanceSport has been selected as a demonstration sport for the National Games. Information on the selection process for the National Games is yet to be released but will likely require participation in the State Games competition and registration as a 2025 Special Olympics member prior to the State Games. Selection criteria will be shared with all participants before the State Games DanceSport competition.

Thank you to the City of Stirling for providing opportunities for people with a disability to showcase their dancing talents through sponsoring the 2025 Perth Para DanceSport Competition.

The City proudly supported Para and Ability Dance Australia through a Community Grant, helping deliver the Special Olympic Dance Sport Development Competition at Stirling Leisure – Mirrabooka last month.

The event featured 38 dancers competing in solo and partner events, representing a wide spectrum of disability communities, including physical and intellectual disabilities, vision impairment, and neurological conditions.

With over 150 people in attendance, the competition provided a visible and inclusive platform, highlighting the capabilities and achievements of dancers with disability.
