I completed my corneal fellowship 13 years ago and my Refractive Surgery fellowship 11 years ago. I am still amazed and get a massive kick out of what we as corneal and refractive surgeons can do to transform lives for the better!

Yesterday I performed a corneal transplant on a 24 year old keratoconic with 6/120 unaided and 6/36 corrected vision pre-op. Booked in for a DALK somewhere else he saw me for a 2nd opinion. As I always tell patients; there is no better cornea than your own. He opted for CAIRS as he was an ideal candidate.

This morning at his Day 1 post op assessment he was seeing 6/9 UNAIDED already, pinholing to 6/6 easily! Man!! How amazing is vision correction surgery?

Humbled to have been chosen to be the first surgeon in Perth and Western Australia to implant the new Johnson & Johnson Odyssey full range of vision intraocular lens. Today I implanted both the toric and non-toric versions. With a full range of vision from near to distance and much less nighttime glare the future for patients seeking spectacle independence following lens based surgery looks bright. We have reached a momentous milestone today at Crystal Eye and Laser Centre by performing our 500th case of Presbyond. Two and a half years ago I brought this amazing technology to Perth and we have not looked back becoming the premiere centre in Perth and WA for the management of presbyopia. Investment in the correct diagnostics and staff has made this endeavour absolutely worthwhile. All our optometric staff has undergone extensive training at the London Vision Clinic under the guidance of Dan Reinstein and his incredible team. Our outcomes has also been exceptional and we have now had our results peer reviewed and accepted to be published in the Journal of Refractive Surgery soon. Pre and post op pictures and corneal topography of a patient that had severe herpetic keratitis with resulting vascular ingrowth and crystallised lipid keratopathy who underwent a topography guided Trans-PRK.

Pre-op his corrected vision was 6/75. He was seen elsewhere where a lamellar corneal transplant was suggested. He however refused a corneal transplant.

A topographical Trans-PRK was performed which has not only regularised his cornea and removed most of the scarring but also his corrected vision has improved to 6/7.5+

Pre and post op outcome of a keratoconic patient who underwent in the right eye

Pre-op the unaided vision was 6/120 and best corrected at only 6/24

Post-op unaided vision was 6/7.5 and the patient refracts to 6/6
