πŸŽ€ October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month πŸŽ€

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among Australian women, but early detection can save lives. Regular checks and awareness of changes in your body are key.

πŸ“Š Did you know?

1 in 7 women in Australia will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.

Around 20,000 Australians are diagnosed with breast cancer every year.

With early detection and treatment, the 5-year survival rate is now over 90%.

βœ… Early Detection Tips:

Perform regular self-examinations and look for changes in breast size, shape, or skin texture.

Report any lumps, swelling, or unusual pain to your doctor.

Attend recommended breast screening (mammograms are available for women 40+).

πŸ’— Why early detection matters:
When found early, breast cancer is more likely to be treated successfully, giving the best chance for cure and long-term health.

✨ Take charge of your health today.

🩺 Shingles: What You Need to Know

Did you know that 1 in 3 people will develop shingles in their lifetime?
In Australia, over 100,000 people are diagnosed with shingles every year.

Who Is at Risk?

Almost all adults over 50 carry the inactive chickenpox virusβ€”even if you don’t remember having chickenpox or only had mild symptoms.
➑️ Shingles can occur in anyone, regardless of age, fitness, or how healthy you feel.

What Is Shingles Like?

Shingles typically causes a painful, blistering rash that lasts 1–2 weeks, and it can take several more weeks to fully settle.

Take Action

Talk to your GP about shingles and how you can help protect yourself and your loved ones. Vaccination is available and can reduce your risk and the severity of symptoms.

πŸ“ Visit us at Piara Waters Medical or call to book an appointment to discuss prevention and vaccination options.
