A lovely podcast episode with Dr Clare Davison. Such an amazing woman, midwife and academic. One of the main reasons I decided to study at ECU this year (after she invited me to talk to the midwifery students two years running). I can’t wait to study under her! 😍

Today on the show I speak to Dr Clare Davison. Clare is a privately practising midwife who attends births at home as well as in hospital. She is also an academic who holds a PhD and she is a lecturer in midwifery at Edith Cowan University here in Perth, Western Australia. Clare and I chat all things birth and feminism. We start by chatting about her own births - always my favourite way to start an interview. We then chat about working inside the system, working outside the system, changing the system or maybe creating a new one? Ultimately a birth revolution! Clare is the woman who is changing the face of birth by educating the next generation of midwives and I am very grateful for her work, knowledge and passion.

Dr Clare Davison is a midwife, academic and feminist. Clare is passionate about promoting and supporting physiological birth and working with women so that they can be empowered in their birth choices. Clare combines these passions by working as an independent midwife, providing holistic continuity of care to women; and as an academic teaching and hoping to inspire the next generation of midwives.

A beautiful morning spent with some incredible people in our Perth birth community! Thank you Fiona for taking the time to chat about trauma and make sure we, as birth workers, are looking after ourselves in the work we do. ♥️

Over the past couple of weeks our parentage order was finally granted and a new birth certificate was issued for Jack, with Kate and Kris listed as his parents!
It’s been almost 8 months since Jack was born and now our surrogacy journey has officially come to an end!
I’m so happy for Kate and Kris to now finally be legally recognized as Jack’s parents, even though his parentage has never been questioned. They’ve been such incredible parents to him and it’s just so special to see the three of them together.
Super proud of Kate too, juggling new motherhood while also going through the rigmarole of the WA courts to get this parentage order. It’s not an easy task with the mounds of paperwork, so hats off to her!
While our surrogacy journey has officially “ended”, our friendship has definitely not and we still catch up regularly. They can’t get rid of us that easy. Here’s to no longer being “Intended Parents”, now just regular old Parents! 😉🌿

The FBC has experienced one of it's busiest months this October in many many years! Our Midwives have been working around the clock to provide amazing continuity of care and have helped welcome 91 babies into the world. 😍
We are so proud of the excellent service we provide.
