The White Diet … have you ever met a child who lives on bread, pasta, rice, chicken nuggets or chips? 🍟 that’s what we call the ‘white diet’ - when kids mostly stick to beige/white foods to avoid anything that’s outside of their comfort zone.

We get it - it’s worrying for parents, but often there is more going on:

⭐️Sensory sensitivities
⭐️Texture preferences
⭐️Past negative food experiences

That’s where speech pathologists can make a real difference. At So to Speak, our speechies work with families to:

🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒Explore why kids prefer certain foods
🌱 Create safe, positive food experiences
💪🏼 Suppory chewing and swallowing skills
🤝Collaborate with OTs, dieticians and parents

Because food isn’t just fuel- it’s connection and joy 💙

If your child is stuck on a ‘white diet’, you’re not alone. Support is out there and we’re here to help 💬 DM us to find out more.

🤟🏼 It’s International Week of Deaf People - a time to celebrate Deaf culture, language and the importance of access to communication for everyone!

At So to Speak, we believe that every child deserves the chance to connect, express themselves and be understood - whether it be through speech, gestures, AAC or sign language like Auslan 💙

This week we’re sharing a few basic signs that you can (and should teach your Bub) - a simple way to start learning, supporting and showing respect for the Deaf community.

Language takes many forms, and every form matters ✨💬

💛 Today is R U OK? Day 💛

At So To Speak, we know the power of communication — not just for our kids, but for all of us. Sometimes the simplest conversations can make the biggest difference. 🌟

💬 Checking in with someone can be as easy as asking:
👉 R U OK?
👉 What’s been happening for you lately?
👉 I’m here if you’d like to talk.

You don’t need to have all the answers — just being there and listening with care matters more than you know. 💛

Let’s take today as a reminder to look out for one another, start meaningful conversations, and support the people around us. 🌈

💡Parent Tip!💡

Everyday routines like snack time are the perfect opportunity to build your child’s language skills! 💬

👉 Next time you’re about to hand over their favourite snack, try pausing for a moment. This gives your child the chance to:
🗣️ Say a word
🤟 Use a sign
👋 Or make a gesture

It’s a simple little pause that can make a big difference in encouraging communication! 🌈💡

💙 Happy Father’s Day! 💙

To all the dads, grandads, uncles, and father figures who:
📚 Read “just one more story”
😂 Tell the best (and silliest) dad jokes
🗣️ Help kids find their words
💪 Cheer them on every step of the way

We celebrate you today! 🌈✨

👋 Hi everyone!

I’m Taila - So to Speak’s newest team member! I graduated in 2021 and since then I’ve been working in the NDIS sector, supporting people of all ages with a wide range of communication and swallowing needs.

Before becoming a speech pathologist, I also worked as a disability support worker. This experience gave me a strong foundation in person-centred and family-focused care, which is something I value deeply in my practice. 💜

My clinical interests include:
👶 Paediatric feeding & dysphagia
🗣️ Language
🧩 AAC (augmentative & alternative communication)
📚 Literacy

I’m passionate about helping children and their families achieve meaningful goals in ways that feel supportive, practical, and empowering. Seeing kids grow in confidence and reach their potential is the best part of what I do! ✨

I’m so excited to be part of the team and can’t wait to meet you all soon!
