Every child develops communication skills at their own pace and needing extra support is more common than many families realise 💛

Speech therapy isn’t just about pronunciation. Communication includes:
✨ understanding language
✨ expressing thoughts and feelings
✨ social interaction
✨ play skills
✨ confidence
✨ literacy foundations
✨ feeding and oral motor skills (for some children)

Sometimes the signs can be subtle, and early support can make a huge difference in helping children feel more confident and understood.

It’s also important to remember:
✨ Communication differences can look different for every child
✨ Children don’t need to “grow out of it” before seeking support
✨ Early intervention can help build confidence, connection, and participation

And most importantly, speech therapy should feel supportive, engaging, and child-led 💛

If you’ve ever wondered whether your child may benefit from support, trust your instincts. Asking questions early is always okay.

If your child needs a little extra support, we’re here for you every step of the journey 🤝

✨ KINDY SPEECH & LANGUAGE SCREENERS ✨

Strong communication skills can make all the difference in helping children feel confident, connected and ready to learn. 💛

Our Kindy Speech & Language Screeners are a short, play-based check designed to identify how your child is tracking with their communication skills and whether any extra support may help before school begins.

These screeners may benefit children who:
⭐️ Have difficulty understanding instructions
⭐️ Struggle to express themselves
⭐️ Are harder to understand
⭐️ Or if you’d simply like reassurance

Families receive:
✔️ An easy-to-understand summary report
✔️ Clear recommendations and next steps
✔️ Guidance around therapy pathways, early intervention and funding options

We also offer GROUP BOOKINGS for schools and daycare centres! 🌈

Let’s taco about it Tuesday 🌮

After school can be one of the hardest parts of the day for many children, especially those who are neurodivergent, highly sensitive, or working hard to manage social, sensory, and learning demands throughout the day.

By the time they get home, their nervous system may be completely exhausted.

What can look like:
• meltdowns
• irritability
• shutting down
• clinginess
• emotional outbursts
• refusing simple tasks
…is often a child communicating:
🧠 “I’ve used all my energy trying to cope.”

Here are a few simple ways to support regulation after school:

✨ Give them space before asking questions - Instead of “How was your day?” the second they get in the car, try offering quiet connection first.

✨ Prioritise snacks + hydration - Low energy and hunger can make regulation much harder.

✨ Reduce demands for a little while - After a full day of “sit still,” “listen,” and “focus,” children often need downtime before homework or chores.

✨ Encourage movement - Swinging, jumping, climbing, dancing, stretching, or outdoor play can help regulate the nervous system.

✨ Create a calm transition home - Soft music, sensory tools, comfy clothes, or quiet time can help children decompress safely.

✨ Remember: behaviour is communication

Children aren’t trying to give us a hard time, they’re often having a hard time.
Every child is different, and what works one day may not work the next. Supporting regulation starts with understanding what’s underneath the behaviour 💛

Today, we celebrate all the incredible mums and mother figures in our So To Speak community.

🌈 To the mums celebrating first words, first sounds, and every small (but mighty) milestone, we see you.

🌈 To the mums showing up to sessions, practising at home, and cheering on every bit of progress, we see you.

🌈 To the mums navigating challenges, advocating for their children, and doing it all with so much love, we see you.

You’ve got mail! Introducing So To Speak Sidekicks 💌

One of our favourite in-house initiatives, designed to build connection, confidence, and communication in a meaningful way.

Sidekicks is our therapist-supported pen pal program, where children create and exchange letters during their sessions. With guidance from our therapists, they’re supported every step of the way, from generating ideas to expressing themselves.

There’s something truly special about watching a child light up when they receive a letter. It’s connection in its simplest (and most powerful) form 🤍

If you think your child would love to be part of Sidekicks, let us know! We’d love to include them!

🌟 Star of the Month: Hayley 🌟

We are so proud to celebrate Hayley as our Star of the Month for the month just been (April)! 💛

Hayley has shown such beautiful bravery in her sessions, giving things a go and staying engaged, even when things feel a little tricky.

It’s those quiet, powerful moments of courage that make the biggest difference, and Hayley has been showing them in the most amazing way ✨

We are so proud of you, Hayley, and absolutely love being part of your journey 💫

Keep shining, you are incredible! 🌟💛
