Therapy is hard. But so is ignoring your mental and emotional health. Both paths come with discomfort - the question is, which kind of difficult are you choosing for the long term?
Healing looks different for everyone. It’s not usually a linear process, and it’s rarely neat. It can be lifelong, and it’s mostly messy because it’s a deeply human process - one that ebbs and flows as you grow. There’s very rarely a quick fix but ignoring it and wallpapering over it - will only perpetuate the problem long term causing more pain.
If you or a loved one are considering engaging in psychotherapy. A helpful consideration would be - How does your distress impact on your day to day functioning?
3 open ended questions that can help you to determine this further are;
How often am I being triggered? (Frequency)
How long does the shift in my mood last? (Duration)
How intense does it feel when I’m in the triggering situations? (Rate Intensity on a scale of 0-10)
The more frequent the triggers, the longer the length of those bursts and the higher the intensity of the feelings would indicate that therapy may prove useful ✨
