Yesterday I was angry. Not just with someone but also myself. Anger at my impatience, my intolerance and anger at my incompetence. Instead of pushing anger away I closed my eyes and went into it. I let go of control, power and perfection and felt much easier afterwards. Holding onto anger is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to d*ie.

Are you experiencing communication and conflict issues in your relationships? When in high conflict, being able to talk peacefully about important issues without being triggered can feel almost impossible. Relationship issues can be about unmet needs and unresolved issues. What are you not getting from your partner that you desperately crave? Do you bring up old arguments every time there is a current one. Festering thoughts and ruminations can destroy the fabric of any relationship. No relationship is perfect but couples can do better by slowing down using present moment awareness and mindfulness. As someone in very long term relationship myself I mostly take my learnings and own advice that I give out as a couples counsellor. Mostly. My thoughts are it is about making a decision about where you want to spend your precious time and limited energy on.

Our Shadow Side
We all have a shadow side that lurks in the background of the soundtrack of our lives.
The shadow side represents the unconscious, repressed, or disowned aspects of the personality—including "negative" traits like anger, fear, and selfishness, as well as hidden talents. It acts as a "dark side" that, if ignored, can cause self-sabotage, relationship issues, and projection of these traits onto others.
The idea of therapy can be to make the unconscious conscious, leading to wholeness, authenticity, and personal growth by identifying triggers (what bothers you in others is often a reflection of your own shadow), analyzing recurring conflicts, and journaling.
Embracing the shadow reduces the need for projection, improves emotional regulation, and fosters self-acceptance.

Aveley Counselling works with clients meeting them wherever they are in their life journey. Some clients and I are working towards a new realignment and connection with self. So what does that mean? It's about the mind/brain/body/soul connection. Finding that elusive sense of purpose and meaning deep inside our bones, hiding in plain sight waiting to be awakened by a bit of self-examination through Socratic questioning. The main question being what do we want the rest of our life to look like?
