When asked about planning birth, I’ll often hear women say something along the lines of ‘going with the flow’ ~ and although it’s important to be open to the unexpected elements of labour and birth, this approach can be problematic…

Here’s why…
Learning the art of surrender – is not at all the same as being OPEN or going with the flow. Understanding that surrender has NOTHING to do with giving up or handing over your power and EVERYTHING to do with leaning in.

With so many parallels between yoga and birth, this workshop will help you and your birth partner navigate the waves of birth from a practical and philosophical perspective ✨

🤰🏽 Although our period pauses while we grow our babies in our womb, there is still an undercurrent of our cyclical nature during pregnancy, birth and postpartum ~ the ebb and flow.

⭕️ Cycles are an important honouring of endings and new beginnings - are there are many taking place as we expand physically and emotionally throughout this time.

🌑 In the final class of my pregnancy series we honour the feminine energy of the Leo new moon, embracing stillness, darkness and new beginnings with a sequence of prenatal yin postures…plus some Lions breath 🦁

Flow with me for your pregnancy!
There’s just TWO spaces left for my next prenatal series starting 4 August available in person or via livestream

CREATING SPACE IN PREGNANCY

🫶Yoga practices aim to draw your attention away from the outer world, so that you can pay attention to your inner world ~ the space within. During pregnancy we are naturally drawn inward: feeling, sensing, nourishing and protecting the soul growing within.

The postures we practice in prenatal yoga are designed to encourage space and awareness in the belly and the pelvis, helping baby to move into an optimal position.

Not only space within your womb important, there are other spaces that need to be nurtured too ~ your head space - building resilience through mindfulness, meditation and mantra while learning the natural processes of birth, allowing you to make choices from a place of inner knowing.

Then there’s your birth space - the place in which you will welcome your baby into the world. The environment around you (and the people in it!) will have a profound effect on how you feel during your labour and birth, so it’s an important consideration in preparing for your birth.

Within my prenatal classes, I’ll often mention the mood of the room - dimmed lights increase melatonin, the hormone which helps the body to feel at ease and relaxed; when the lights are low melatonin increases, couple this with feeling safe and secure and you have a perfect cocktail of melatonin and oxytocin hormones which together may give you quality more effective contractions during labour as well as bonding with baby after birth.

When you come into the room for your yoga class - do you feel at ease in your body? How do you think the environment of the room affects these feelings? The sounds, the smells, the lights - do they make you feel at ease or anxious?

You have the power to create the spaces that you want for you and your baby. You can’t control your birth, but these spaces will help you be prepared for it.

Want to lean into this space? Join me!

We are still looking to recruit numbers - we have until December to get all the participants we can

Are you planning a homebirth in WA?
We’d love to hear from you!
The PAUSEMATTERS Study is exploring natural pauses during labour – also known as physiological plateaus. These pauses are a normal part of the birthing process, but they’re often misunderstood.
If you’re planning a homebirth in Western Australia with a privately practicing midwife, you may be eligible to take part in this important research. Your experience can help improve understanding of healthy birth rhythms and reduce unnecessary interventions in labour.
Help us protect and support physiological birth – your story matters.

We’re recruiting women with a "due" date anytime in 2025, so it’s not too late to join!

Has your hospital or obstetrician suggested an induction to bring the birth of your baby forward?

Did you know that an induction increases your chances of a caesarean birth? That induction itself also carries other risks that are not disclosed or discussed to mothers?

I was induced for my first birth - completely unaware of the risks, I believed it was the best option for a safer birth. I wish I had done my research and not just taken the hospital’s advice.

Women are incredibly vulnerable throughout pregnancy - particularly towards the end off the third trimester.

Mamas PLEASE do your homework- if you’re researching the best pram or car seat then do the same - if not more - for your birth!

Dr Sara Wickham provides a wealth of information and evidence-based advice, she’s a great stsrting point, she also has an article on 5 questions to ask If you’re being induced:

Real-world research shows that induction increases caesarean, no matter what certain obstetric trials might have found...
