Some time ago I saw a client who was a local paramedic. She was struggling with returning to work in Perth following a time working as a paramedic in one of the poorest countries in Africa. While the injuries and illnesses were often more demanding and horrific, the reaction from any help she gave was pure gratitude. The people had no expectation that they would get any help and therefore their gratitude was sincere and extremely rewarding, she felt like she was making a difference.
Alternatively working in Perth, she faces anger, resentment, resistance and violence, and possibly worse, the expectation that she is here to serve.
It is your attitude, when you have everything, that defines you.
