National Sorry Day is a powerful moment—especially for Indigenous people and survivors of the Stolen Generation. It can feel massive, even distant, when we think about it on a national scale.

But one meaningful way to connect with the heart of this day is to reflect on our own families and communities. Where are the apologies still needed? Where can healing begin, even in small, personal ways?

As clinicians we’ve sat across from people of all ages, backgrounds, and belief systems—each carrying a different story, but often echoing the same pain. The need for an apology. Or the weight of one that hasn’t apologised or the ache of knowing they owe one themselves. In therapy, this shows up again and again—not as a side note, but as a turning point.

Some wait decades to hear “I’m sorry.” Others whisper it through clenched jaws, hoping it’s enough to set something inside them free. And some are only just learning that they can apologise to themselves.

What happens with my Medicare referral in the new year?

This is a common question we get asked in December each year. Each person’s circumstances are unique, so it’s best to chat with your therapist about your particular situation.

If you haven’t used all ten of your Medicare rebates in 2024, your therapist will be able to advise you about when you next need to return to your GP to request a re-referral.

If you have used all of your ten Medicare rebatable sessions in 2024, any time from the 1st January 2025 onwards, you can return to your GP to discuss your eligibility for continuing sessions under Medicare. Your therapist doesn’t need to send any paperwork to your GP for this appointment. All you need to do is make the booking with your GP. Assuming they provide you with a referral, you then need to email this paperwork through to our Support Team, ahead of your next session with your therapist.

Our therapist’s diaries are filling up quickly for the start of 2025, so be sure to reach out to our friendly Client Care Team now if you would like to make a booking for January or February.

Here’s some tips and activities that could help this holiday season! The Christmas period can be a very busy and costly time for many people. From November onwards we are often surrounded by reminders of Christmas everywhere we go in many different contexts.

Here’s a blog by Senior Social Worker Kristin Tovey. Masterspsychology.com.au/blog

If you are a person who loves Christmas and the build up to this time, it is exciting and energising. If you are not a person who loves this time, it can have the opposite effect.

Christmas means different things to different people and is influenced by culture, beliefs, and past experiences. It is also a time that can increase distress in people, enhance financial strain and highlight losses.

When you have lost a significant person in your life, Christmas can be a reminder of this and amplify the pain, whether it is the first Christmas without the person or the 10th Christmas.

Here are some reminders that may help you through this time and can be applied for anniversaries and any other significant event. Follow the link in bio for the blog.
