Today is World Cerebral Palsy Day!🌍

Jaymie is one of our Lifeskills participants with cerebral palsy who lives a full and fun life. Jaymie has been with Intelife since 2007 and in that time has made many friends and achieved many personal goals such as becoming proficient with cooking meals independently, catching public transport and more.

Jaymie loves movies, specifically horror - Friday the 13th, Freddy Krueger, Halloween, Jaymie loves them all! He also enjoys going to Supanova, the comic book and video game convention, every year.

Despite his love for darker movies and pop culture, Jaymie is known as being light-hearted, funny, and a very friendly presence around his friends and the Intelife team.

Everyone deserves the chance to grow, thrive, and be seen. At Intelife, we’re proud to support individuals in reaching their goals and living life on their own terms.

This October, we’re proud to celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness Month - raising awareness and challenging misconceptions about this often-misunderstood condition. 💙💛

Down syndrome occurs when a person is born with an extra copy of chromosome 21. This additional genetic material can lead to developmental differences such as slower motor skills and shorter attention spans, as well as health challenges like heart conditions. But it also contributes to the unique personalities, talents, and strengths of those affected.

People with Down syndrome are often described as kind, loyal, trusting, and driven. Awareness Month is not only about education but about challenging stereotypes and shifting the narrative from limitation to potential and recognising the value and capabilities of every individual.

At Intelife, we work alongside participants with Down syndrome to support them in reaching both personal and employment goals - whether that’s building confidence, learning new skills, finding meaningful work, or creating a personalised path that supports their individual goals.

If you or someone you know would like to learn more, contact us via the link in our bio today.

Have you met Cheryl? She has been with Intelife for over 12 years!

As part of the Lifeskills program, from our hub in Gosnells, Cheryl has built many foundational lifeskills with the support of Intelife and now volunteers at Crossways OpShop in Kelmscott, which she loves. Her duties include price tagging clothes, assisting customers and keeping the store neat and tidy, all tasks that Cheryl was initially apprehensive about, but thanks to our supportive team and her own determination, she was able to overcome these challenges and is thriving.

Not only has Cheryl been able to build new work skills, she's also grown in self confidence thanks to embedding herself in the local community. All of these skills support Cheryl towards exploring customised employment - an option that looks different for everyone and is tailored to individual interests and skills.

This week is Dementia Action Week, a week dedicated to not only dementia awareness but also a call to action to connect with those affected. Studies show that people with disabilities have a higher likelihood of developing dementia and the subsequent feelings of isolation and loneliness.

Dementia doesn’t just impact the person living with the condition, it also affects their family, friends, and wider community. Sadly, many people report that after their diagnosis, friends and social connections begin to fade away. This leads to isolation, loneliness, and overall stigma.

With over 433,000 Australians living with dementia and a further 1.7 million involved in their care, chances are someone you know is impacted. This Dementia Action Week, we’re encouraging you to reconnect and show support, because nobody should face dementia alone.

At Intelife we see firsthand the difference that consistent, thoughtful support can make. Whether it's helping someone take their medication, preparing meals, or encouraging them to get back into hobbies like gardening or singing in a local choir, these small, everyday moments help maintain independence, dignity, and connection.

If someone in your life has been diagnosed with dementia, or you suspect they might be showing the early signs, take this action week to please reach out and show you care. 💜

Today is R U OK? Day, a time to check in with those around us and let them know that they matter, we care, and how a simple conversation can change a life. 💛

For people with disabilities, feelings of isolation or being misunderstood can be even more common. An estimated 41% of people with disabilities self-reported that they had mood disorders such as depression and anxiety. Support workers also report higher rates of mental health issues due to a number of factors including burnout, lack of time for self-care, and demanding work environments. That’s why it’s so important to check in, listen without judgment, and create safe spaces for open, honest conversations.

A simple “Are you OK?” can make a real difference.

At Intelife we’re committed to fostering a culture of care and connection, where every individual feels valued and supported. Today serves as an important reminder to check in with those around us and to keep the conversation going beyond just one day.

If you're not OK or are in need of a shoulder to lean on, reach out to for judgement free support.

🥉Congratulations Josh!🥉

Over the weekend, our very own Josh Yates competed at the World Transplant Games, winning Bronze in the Racewalk competition!
The games which are held every 2 years, this time in Germany, are a way of promoting sports and athletics amongst organ transplant recipients. Josh has competed in the World Transplant Games multiple times, this year entering the 400m, 800m, 4x100m relay as well as the racewalk.

Josh has been with Intelife since 2007 and in that time, he has had many impressive achievements both on the world stage and locally. Josh is an integral member of the local Busselton community; with a busy calendar he volunteers and mentors at Vasse Primary school and is an amazing role model to others. We are thrilled to celebrate Josh's achievements on and off the sports field.

If you're in Perth or the South-West region and would like to see what we can do to help you achieve your goals, contact us today through the link in our bio.

✨Excellence in Disability Support Work✨
Annabel Dyer – stepped in to support Balcatta participant Aaron with patient encouragement and innovative strategies to help him explore new activities, manage change, and grow in confidence. Having followed the same routine for a number of years Aaron now chooses from a wide range of weekly activities, communicates confidently and has developed a greater independence in every day tasks.

✨Excellence in Supporting Employment Outcomes✨
Kerry Bain – has been an amazing supporter of Massimo one of our Balcatta Hub participants. Having started with Intelife after high school and learning key daily life skills including things cooking, organisation and cleaning, Kerry worked closely with our Skills Trainers Massimo and his family to create a plan that nurtured his strengths, built his confidence, and opened new doors for his future.

✨Excellence in Regional and Remote Support ✨
Team Josh - have gone above and beyond to support Busselton participant Josh to live a life full of choice, purpose and connection. From helping him attend inclusive dating and social events to supporting his roles as a school volunteer and in his paid job with Intelife as a Co-Design Team member, not to mention his participation in the transplant games; they’ve worked creatively and consistently to remove barriers that often come with living regionally. Their commitment has empowered Josh to live life on his own terms, filled with meaningful work, friendships and new experiences.
