Today marks the start of the NHAA's Herbal Medicine Week for this year.

Herbs for a huge part of my life in both my clinic and in my daily life. I'm forever grateful for the healing that they bring to my patients and myself.

We don't say what we think. We often don't allow ourselves to feel what we feel. We don't do the things that we want.

Sometimes there are real reasons for this but a lot of the times there aren't.

We owe it to ourselves to check in and see what we are missing.

This year the theme for World Menopause Day is Cognition and Mood.

"Cognitive complaints are frequent in midlife women and are associated with decreased quality of life [1]. These cognitive complaints are reliably validated and documented across the menopause transition (MT)....."*

Hormonal changes that start during perimenopause make huge changes in a woman's brain. This can lead to distressing and debilitating effects such as anxiety, depression, brain fog, and fatigue.
In clinic, I see a lot of women who are experiencing these sorts of symptoms and I'm grateful every day to have my herbal and nutritional tool chest to draw from. Being able to ease these sorts of concerns and get women back on track is something I love doing.

The Aztecs and Incas used yam as a women’s medicine. It helped to reduce menstrual pain, and for labour relief.

Today, wild yam is used for its anti-inflammatory properties.
It can reduce pain from intestinal cramping, and relieve pain from arthritis, joint and muscles, neuralgia and inflammations. It may also assist blood sugar regulation. Some traditional medicine practitioners also suggest using wild yam to support symptoms of menopause.
