Prostate cancer hits close to home for us at RDM Mechanical. Andrei’s story really shows why early detection and research are so crucial. 💙
We’re backing the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia on their Giving Day. Every donation today gets doubled until midnight, so let’s make a real impact together!
We know times are tough, but if you're able to chip in and help us beat prostate cancer please visit: www.pcfagivingday.org.au
Andrei can still remember sitting in his urologist’s office, trying not to panic. 😨
He was only 45.
“The urologist sat me down and told me matter-of-factly: “It can only be one thing at this stage: you have prostate cancer,” he says. 😢
“A biopsy and further tests showed that I had aggressive, locally advanced prostate cancer. 💔
“Having to tell your girls you’ve got cancer is a moment you’ll never forget. 🥺
“Georgia, our youngest, started running around the room. Emma, our oldest, just bit her bottom lip and burst into tears. 😭
“Suddenly, to her, I wasn’t invincible. 👎
“My life was abruptly taken over by painful treatments. 🥺
“I needed surgery and two years of androgen deprivation injections. 😢
“The surgery didn’t get rid of it all, so I had to have 39 sessions of radiation that damaged my bladder, which made me so sick and too exhausted to work. 🤕
“After nine months of clear PSA tests, I started to think that I might be cancer-free. 👍
“In 2020, I received another punch to the guts – my PSA levels were detectable again. 😫
“I’ll still need more high-dose radiation to kill the cancer that has surfaced in my pelvis. 👎
“Still, I’m trying to stay hopeful, and I’ve told my girls I’m not going anywhere anytime soon. 💪
“We know that the faster you get treated, the better the outcomes are with this disease, which is why I’m supporting PCFA Giving Day today. 💙
“Investing in research is also investing in reducing that agonising wait and uncertainty for men about finding out where the cancer is and what we need to do to treat it. 👍
“Everything we can do to move ourselves towards better control and ultimately a cure for prostate cancer is a wonderful thing. 💯
“We’re going to beat this thing before it beats me.” 🙌
We couldn’t agree more, Andrei. Research saves lives.
