Diving is high-risk work that requires more than skill; it demands strict safety protocols and strong employer accountability.
✅ Why it matters:
Diving work exposes workers to serious hazards, including drowning, decompression illness, equipment failure, and entrapment. One mistake underwater can be fatal.
✅ Worker Safety Comes First:
Every diver must be medically fit, properly trained, and fully equipped. Safe systems of work must be followed at all times, including conducting risk assessments and implementing emergency plans.
✅ Employer Responsibilities (PCBU):
Under WHS laws, employers must:
*Eliminate or minimise diving-related risks
*Provide competent supervision and instruction
*Ensure emergency procedures and communication systems are in place
*Maintain and inspect diving equipment regularly
✅ Failure to comply can result in:
*Severe penalties and legal consequences
*Prosecution under WHS legislation
*Risk to life and serious injury
Safety isn’t just best practice—it’s the law.
