Residents from Bethanie Geneff Aged Care Home were recently treated to a special performance from Japanese Sakura Choir. 🌸

Among the singers was Bethanie care worker, Mai. The choir shared stunning harmonies across much‑loved classics like Amazing Grace, You Are My Sunshine and We Are Australian, alongside traditional Japanese songs sung in both English and Japanese.

This concert was especially meaningful for Mai, as her mum was visiting from Japan and joined in for the performance. A truly special moment of culture, family and connection.🩷

National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation.

The theme is All In, a call for all Australians to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation every single day.

At Bethanie, this means creating experiences of care and support that respect the identity, history, culture, and choices of every individual, while continuing to strengthen understanding and connection across our communities.

Thriving veggies thanks to Pedro!🥦

At Bethanie Illawong Aged Care home, Pedro takes great pride in tending to the veggie patch. From zucchini and broad beans to beetroot, chillies and tomatoes, the garden is always well looked after.

When the produce is ready, Pedro is quick to offer it to other residents, staff and even the kitchen team.

The Volunteer Week celebrations continue✨

This week we have been recognising the generosity, care and commitment our volunteers bring every day. From morning teas to certificates of appreciation, it has been a meaningful chance to pause and say thank you.

Resident Judith beautifully captured the spirit of the week in a speech she wrote to honour our volunteers:
“Thank you to the people who give their time, their kindness, and their hearts to make life brighter for others.”💚

We are celebrating all volunteers across Bethanie, this National Volunteers Week, who give their time, care and compassion. Today we’re highlighting two more of the many people who make an incredible difference.

Ricky has been a valued volunteer for seven years, supporting the Therapy Team two days a week. From activities and bus outings to one‑on‑one visits, he brings energy, reliability and a strong sense of purpose to each day.

Helen also volunteers several times a week with the Therapy Team. Her warm presence, dedication and genuine interest in residents’ stories make her a valued part of the Bethanie community.

We are grateful to Ricky and Helen, and to every Bethanie volunteer, for the time, care and heart you give.

On Friday we celebrated the start of construction of 50 new social and affordable homes for older Western Australians at Dalyellup.

We were honoured to welcome Hon. John Carey Minister for Planning, Lands, Housing, and Health Infrastructure and Hon. Don Punch MLA, member for Bunbury to site to officially launch our new development. We are grateful to the State Government and to Housing Australia for their support in helping fund the delivery of new social and affordable homes here in Dalyellup.

These 50 new homes are being built within an established Bethanie community, alongside 104 existing homes and our residential aged care home. Next year, we look forward to welcoming new residents to a place where they will be safe, supported and belong to a special community.

We also give special thanks to Elder Margaret Ugle, who welcomed us to Country and opened the day with a smoking ceremony.

Thank you to everyone who joined us last week, and to the teams who have worked hard to get us here.

This National Volunteer Week, we are recognising the many volunteers who are an integral part of Bethanie, and shining a light on a few of those generous individuals.

Richa joined Bethanie with a passion for supporting older people. Over the past year, she has contributed through administrative support and pamper care, guided by her belief that even small interactions can brighten someone’s day.

Judi began volunteering after visiting her father in aged care. By taking the time to learn residents’ stories and interests, she creates thoughtful moments of connection that enrich both their lives and her own.

Thank you, Richa and Judi, for the kindness and commitment you bring to Bethanie, this National Volunteer Week and always.

🌟The Bethanie Spotlight🌟

Meet Lana - Kitchenhand

Since 2024, Lana has been going above and beyond for residents and fellow staff. She was recently recognised for her unwavering compassion and dedication, staying behind after her shift to support residents in the moments that matter most.

Lana says, "Gaining friendships is easily the most favourite part of my job, I love learning about who the residents are."

"These conversations are what I love the most and I feel honoured that they trust me enough to share their lives with me. The laughs and even the tears leave me beaming with pride, I really hope they do know how much I care about them."

A fellow staff member put it perfectly, "Thank you, Lana, for embodying the very best of what it means to care, and for helping our residents truly feel that they belong."💚

Celebrating International Nurses Day!💚

Hear from Liz and Paula as they share the paths that led them to nursing, what has shaped them along the way, and the advice they would give to future nurses.

This International Nurses Day, we thank all our nurses for the dedication they bring to their work, the experience they share with future generations, and the steady compassion they offer to residents and families.
