🌈 After-School Calm for Neurodiverse Kids 🧠💛
At Inside Out Holistic GAPS Nursing, we know that the end of the school day can feel overwhelming for many neurodiverse children. Big feelings, sensory overload, and social fatigue are so real — and so valid.

Here are a few gentle, GAPS‑aligned ways to help your child reset, regulate, and reconnect after a busy day:

✨ 1. Nourishing Snack Time
A simple whole‑food snack (meat stock, soft-boiled eggs, veggie sticks, or homemade gummies) can help stabilise energy and support the gut–brain connection.

✨ 2. Movement to Release Tension
Try a short grounding walk, bouncing on a mini‑tramp, stretching, or a few minutes on a swing. Movement helps the nervous system shift from “survive” to “thrive.”

✨ 3. Quiet Sensory Retreat
Create a calm nook with dim lighting, noise‑reduction headphones, soft textures, or weighted blankets. A few minutes of quiet can feel like an hour of peace.

✨ 4. Connection Before Questions
Instead of asking about their day straight away, offer presence:
🤍 “I’m so glad you’re home.”
🤍 “Take your time, I’m here when you're ready.”

✨ 5. Gut–Brain Support
GAPS‑aligned strategies can help soothe the nervous system from the inside out. Small daily steps can make big shifts over time.

If you’re wanting support tailored to your child’s unique sensory, emotional, and nutritional needs, I’m here to help. 🌿
Inside Out Holistic GAPS Nursing offers compassionate guidance for families navigating neurodiversity with calm, clarity, and confidence.

🥄 Kefir: Gentle, Living Nourishment
Kefir is one of our favourite healing tools — a creamy, fermented milk rich in probiotics that support gut health, immune balance, and the gut–brain connection.

For neurodivergent families, kefir can be a gentle ally. It helps calm inflamed systems, improves nutrient absorption, and supports sensory regulation — all from the inside out.

We start slow. A spoonful. A sip. A celebration of progress.

Because healing doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to begin.

With all the buzz around the new USA food pyramid guidelines, we decided to make our own!

This is the GAPS Diet–inspired food pyramid, centered around the foods that truly support gut healing and overall health across the different stages and spectrums of the GAPS Nutritional Protocol. At the foundation are animal foods and fats, and meat stock - the building blocks of the body. This includes quality animal meats (don't leave out the skin and nibbly bits of soft joint cartilage), fish, organ meats, eggs, animal fats, full-fat fermented dairy (kefir, sour cream, yogurt, and creme fraiche), ghee, butter, olive oil, and nourishing soups, stews, and casseroles. Foods are delicately seasoned with herbs, peppercorns, and rock salt.

In the early stages, the GAPS Diet focuses on well-cooked vegetables (as tolerated), gradually expanding to include eggs, avocado, and fermented foods like beet kvass, cabbage tonic, sauerkraut, fermented full-fat dairy, freshly dripped whey, and aged cheeses. Ginger tea with raw honey and other herbal, non-caffeinated teas are recommended along with freshly pressed juices as the base of GAPS milkshakes and smoothies. Honey is the primary natural sweetener on GAPS.

As the gut heals, more variety can be added in moderation and as tolerated, like raw and dried fruits, raw vegetables, along with properly prepared nuts and seeds that are soaked, sprouted, and fermented to support optimal digestion and absorption.

Repairing the gut is about simplicity, nourishment, and honoring how the body was designed to be fed. The GAPS Diet and our new food pyramid respects the unique healing path of every person - no matter where they begin their journey to recovery!
